How upgradable is the 1100? Looking for a basic machine for the parents.0

With regards to the free printer, I recently took advantage of a earlier Dell offer with a free 725 printer and inks *** DO *** come with the printer. I'm unsure if they're just trial ones or not, but I'm quite a heavy user of my printer and I've still got bags left of ink!

I've set-up loads and loads of Dells. Look, to clear up as few things
1. I haven't seen a Dell in the last 2 years (notebook or desktop) that didn't have onboard network.
2. The free printer comes with a half-full print cartridge to get you started. The printers are disposable. The inks are dearer than the printers.
3. You get ALL the leads except a usb printer lead for linking the printer to the computer. Don't buy it off Dell or Argos because it shouldn't cost more than a couple of quid.
4. Don't buy anything from Dell over the phone. The horror stories about Dell's call centres are all over the pages of these forums. And print out a copy of what you do buy.0 -
This offer is now closed, Dell offers run every Thursday for one week. The 1100 would be fine for basics, but not very upgradableHow upgradable is the 1100? Looking for a basic machine for the parents. Thanks to all who post constructively.

1100 is pretty much non upgradeable. You can stick in a graphics card for basic gaming, and extra memory easily enough but otherwise not much. To be honest with the price of PCs these days when you get to the point where you need an upgrade it's often not worth it and you'll find it better to sell off your old PC for parts and buy a new one.
If all you want is a basic PC for say internet and word processing etc. the 1100 will be fine. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
Bought it, set it up, waiting for the wireless router to set up connection, selling unopened printer on ebay.

Spotted the offer had closed but they're still doing the machine with 19 inch monitor. In turns of upgrading all I should imagine my parents would need is maybe a better graphics card for basic games and more memory but even those may not be needed (mah jong, solitare, word processing and internet etc!) so I think it's probably going to be fine for their needs.
Thanks all0 -
So is everyone elseselling unopened printer on ebay.

Thanks OP - felt this was a very good find
, though I didn't take it up (this time).
I'm surprised no one has pressed your 'Thanks' button yet - I have only just & I hope others who it has helped will soon follow suit. G0 -
I bought the 1100 at christmas , for ebay and just general surfing , good little comp for the money , just lacks a agp port , Hardly an expensive port to add to motherboard dell ! , otherwise good , it plays dvds well with basic on board graphics . Gave daughter the tft screen as a xmas pressy ( i have a 21" crt ) as that alone ,would have cost me £150.00 for the tft she wanted badly so for 149.99 for the box and mouse, keyboard , a really good buy , especially for the silver surfers and kids who just want a basic machine .
Just waiting for a good priced laptop with wifi and 15" screen and will deal with dell again0
