  • I have a recurring payment, that I did not sign up for, or ask for.
I received a phone call from Ideal world in Oct 2012, asking if I wanted to join the Ideal Extras Club, I explained that i was going abroad& it would be of no use to me, The lady asked if she could send me the information package anyway as there was some vouchers in it i might find useful, which I agreed to, there was a cost for this of £2-99 P&P, they had my Debit card no as I had bought things from Ideal world before,so I told them to take the cost from this.

The package had not arrived before I left to go abroad & I forgot all about it until I noticed a payment for approx £49 on my on line statement, I contacted Ideal World to be to this was the 1st payment for the Ideal Extras Club, but the otehr payments would be £14-99 every 3 mnths I of course explained the situation, she told me in the package that I did not receive was a sign out clause, not a sign in!!!!!!!! I was told to contact the Extras club direct, to say I was angry is an understatement, Ideal Extra is run by a firm called Rocket Marketing, who will not answer my emails & they are still taking the payments, my bank told me to call into a branch of Santander when I was back in the U K, but they have said because it is on a debit card & not a standing order or Direct Debit, I have to contact the company. I feel like I am going round in circles. I would be grateful for any advise or help on this !!!!!!:mad::mad:

Call 08459 724 724. Which is the disputes team number.

Explain the situation to them and they will deal with it as it should be.

Calling into a branch is a waste of time. As it would appear are the frontline staff you have spoken too.

Just give them the date that you said you did not want the pack... ie Date in Oct 2012.

    Jobs a good un.

  • Having just read the item in the latest e-mailing regarding your right to cancel a recurring payment directly with the bank, I immediately tried it with my Saga credit card and came up against a brick wall. I have a letter from the AA indicating that I agreed to a recurring payment when I joined last year, so I phoned the card company and asked them to remove the details from my account. They maintained that they can't do this unless I phone the AA first - even though I pointed out that I was reading the ruling on the FCA website at the time I was speaking to them! So it appears that bank staff still don,t know what the rules are even when you remind them.

If I remember rightly, a guy who posts on here and works for a bank indicated that even though the law says the bank must stop payments on request, their systems don't actually allow them to do so - yet. So it may be that they have to allow the payment to go through and then issue a chargeback, or reimburse you or something.

Edit: dalesrider is the guy I was referring to!

A CPA is NOT listed on your account. So there is no way to remove it.
Even if updated on Visa Account updater. Retailers still ignore this and debit.

Where they are wrong is they should take your instruction on your stop date for any further payments. Then if the AA did debit you they have this date on their systems.

    Think of it like this.
if you want a company NOT to take a payment.... Who is the best one to contact.
    A. The company who take the money.
    B. Your bank, who have no idea about the transaction till they are told about it. Just think how many millions of transactions are made a day.....

Remember a CPA does not have any mandate. So your bank hold no details of these transactions.
Unlike DD's where there are mandates and systems that allow banks to reject payments on the basis the mandate has been withdrawn.

The law does say we can remove authority for any payment, however, so banks surely must have some way of implementing our instructions?

Unless it literally is that they must allow the payment to go out and then refund us afterwards.

Yes the law does..... And has done since 2009

What the powers at be should have done is talked to Visa/MasterCard who process these payments and tell them that they need to have a system in place to block these payments.
Or better still tell them that CPA's were no longer allowed.

Both Visa & Master card have Updater systems which allow us to mark that the CPA is now cancelled. No idea how well the Mastercard one is, but Visa is often ignored by very well known companies. As well as not having many companies listed and certain ones will have lots of entries. So you do not know which to pick

All a bank can do is write to the retailers merchant bank.
All I will say is we do this and they come back saying that we have chargeback rights if the company debits..... NOT that they have informed the company to cease payment requests.
Heck we have been doing chargebacks for years on these.....

  • Hi Guys,

I have a question and first post so be kind...

Back in 2010 I tried to cancel a CPA with Halifax, they told me it wasn't possible, and at the time I was going through financial difficulties and the outcome was a CPA came out my account was for £150 was a debt payment, and my account went overdrawn, they wanted it three days before i got paid so with that I was then charged £70 for going overdrawn.

I challenged this as at the time I asked the bank not to take the money and I was basically passed from pillow to post so refused to pay it, after 3 years the debt now sits at £1050, with the FSA ruling on CPA, where does this leave me, do I need to continue paying off the debt which I currently am, or can I query the whole account?

    Many thanks
