Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 21st July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good

Morning. Another wet, windy and totally miserable summer day. I have to work, so I guess it does not really matter, but The garden is suffering now from lack of sun. Things are rotting with the wet and cold. The bees are not making any honey and well, is there any point trying to 'grow your own'?

2 more days of school and packed lunch making, then the kids will be bored for 6 weeks.

I don't think I can think of anything positive, so I will shut up..... have a nice day

Hi N9eav - I'm so sorry the weather is so bad. We had a lovely day yesterday, but even here in France, it's been cloudy and cool for much of the past two weeks, so I think it's happening everywhere. I remember early this year, the met office was promising the UK a 'barbecue summer'! I don't know why they bother predicting anything at all. Perhaps August will be better.

Well, yesterday was spent running errands but we got loads done. DH is back at work today so I shall have to catch up on things at home.

Having installed our satellite at the weekend we finally have TV after four months without it. Only freeview channels but better than nothing, and certainly better than French TV!

Dinner tonight is something with chicken - not decided yet.

Will catch up with you all later. Hope you all have a good day, despite the weather.

    Hello all :hello::hello::hello:

I thought I'd make a "guest" appearance to let you know that I'm alive and well and enjoying life back in God's Country :D.

Meeting Whistling Gypsy on OS was the best thing that ever happened to me, without a doubt. With her help I've now cleared all my debts and started to live again. I only wish I'd met the girl years ago. Life is looking very good for us atm. We've turned the back garden into an allotment and everything is coming up, if not roses, then beans, tomatoes, potatoes, tec, etc , and I've just "found" a huge loganberry bush in the park behind the house :D.

Work is going okay as well. I managed to find a job in engineering which so far had been very busy, so that's helped to pay the bills, and we're slowly getting sorted to do a carboot soon so that will raise more funds AND get rid of some more clutter . The Hounds of Benthos are similarly doing well and are happy in their new home. We're only 20 minutes drive from the Yorkshire coast so it's great to let the Witch have a swim at weekends.

Anyroadup, I have to leave for work soon so take care one and all and thank you all again :T:T :A

    Morning everybody,

We must be having all the lovely sunshine here today. Thank you. :D The jackpot didn't go off again last night, so Tired Mum there's always next week. :D Been having another easy day as my neck still isn't great and I don't want to push it. That's the story I'm sticking to so there. :p:D

DS2 had an accident at his work today. He got 4 stitches in his leg & he's back at work so all is well. I would have taken the day off. But then again I"m a wimp.

N9eav You always make me laugh. I love the show Grumpy Old Men too. :D
Pippa Milo is a chocolaty drink. It comes in a tin (green, think it's Nestle brand) in powder form and you add hot or cold milk to in. About 2 tablespoons to a glass of milk. We grew up on it, as well as vegemite sandwiches.
MSD sending positive thoughts and prayers for Tristan.

Hope you all have a good day & <hugs> to those not well. Byeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Hi Man-try - great to hear from you and to know that life is looking good for you. Keep in touch now and again, won't you?

Aussie - Vegemite is the same as our Marmite isn't it? Can't buy it here in France (unless you want to pay double the price!), but I still have half a jar and will stock up again when we're in the UK in August. I use it in all sorts of things, like casseroles, soups and so on. Hope your neck improves.

    Good Morning

Benthosboy great to here from you and what a lovely post! So pleased life is going so well for you.

N9eav - heard on the radio that August is meant to be hot - fingers and everything crossed.

Wet here as well, doesnt matter too much today as I am off with the kids first thing to deliver lorry injectors to a garage to be reconditioned, its about an hour away - have had to bribe the kids with a mc d brekkie. This afternoon I need to be in my office & the kids amuse themselves.

Cant remember whats for dinner but will check out my menu plan - oh and have tesco delivery coming at 3pm - only spent about £40 so will be very small but if I went into the store it would be double that.

Ironing pile is gowing and think I may have to address that later.

    Have a great day.x

    Good morning all.

Wet & dark here too so we'll be doing inside activities today ;) I want to make some Twinks and experiment with a pretzl (sp?) recipe that I found. I sorted out the craft box for DS3 & I as well if he fancies doing it.

Lunch today is the ever popular pancakes :D and dinner this evening is baked potatoes with beans & cheese.

Diva Any news yet? Still thinking about you & praying.

Have a good day today xxx

Benthosboy, I was thinking about you the other day and wondering how you were getting on, wow you have done well to clear your debts, and I am so glad you and your young lady are ok, and i am glad that the hounds have settled, good for you x

DD is off to school today, and then off to London tonight to see Blood Brothers, I have to pick her up at 12.15 tonight , not sure how I will manage I am normally in bed by 9 :o, she has an hour after school in which to get something to eat, and get changed, so she is staying in town, and will get herself a veggie burger and chips.

OH and I have got salmon new spuds peas and sweetcorn, and I am going to make up a spinach and cream cheese lasagne for tomorrow nights dinner.

General tidy round today, and maybe a wash, depending on the weather, I am also going to make more bread and butter pickles, as my cucumbers are going well too :T

    Morning everyone.
Rain, rain and more rain here :( So much for the lovely summer they were predicting. I don't want it mega hot but I'd like to be able to put the washing out and be able to leave it. My veggies are doing OK so far except for my tomatoes. I've got 2 small green ones and thats it. Everything else is coming on a treat.
Kids gave me a lie in til 6.30am which was lovely :rotfl:
Having now got some work I am having a panic about EYFS (the national guidelines for CM's and nurseries) as there is so much planning and observations involved I feel a bit out of my depth. I either stress about not having any work or I stress about how to do the work once I've got it :o
Not sure what's for tea tonight. Must get my butt into gear and get organised - think I will end up having that on my headstone :rotfl:

Might take the kids to an indoor play centre for a treat. Best get there early otherwise it will be rammed.
Have a good day all OS or not.

Sorry my post is a little thin on the OS side.......

Diva - hope you are OK.

Morning everyone. Big hugs to everyone who needs them.

Day 2 of the holidays (weekends don't count )
The recycled teenagers came down yesterday, and are staying for 10 day on cat sitting/house swap duties. Went out with Mum yesterday and picked about 5lbs of various types of plum/ damson from the hedgrows /wasteland near us ( semi rural Cambridgeshire). The plunder is now on baking trays in the kitchen drying off.
We've got diagonal rain and the garden tiger is glaring at me because the weather is my fault. She's going to hate us even more after we've taken her to the vet!

We're off to Cumbria tomorrow at an unearthly hour for a bit of down time as our holiday this year - no air fares, no endless security checks, just five hours on the motorway.
Have fun everyone (hope you don;t get too wet!)
