Have a look at deleting the baggage cover, if the Insurers offer this discount it will save between 10% and 25%, her home Insurance may already cover her baggage and if not it costs circa £25 to cover it throughout the year and will cover her personal items away from home in the UK as well eg when she goes shopping.
In additon you might consider deleting cancellation cover which can save between 10% and 15%.
Have you tried companies that specialise in the elderly eg Saga, Age Concern etc. It may also be worth having a look on the websites for the Crohns Disease Association and / or Diabetes UK as they often have good schemes
I will try this tip - thanks0 -
Dual, the best advice I can give you is to keep on looking. I had quotes last year for £1200 for 2 weeks, I shopped around and around and was about to accept a quote for £400 when I decided to try again and got it down to £200 with this company:
http://www.manorinsurance.co.uk/
They do an initial assessment and give you a 'code' to use for the medical screening agency. I had been turned down before by the same screening agency via a different insurers but managed to get excellent cover; the policy was with Norwich Union IIRC.
Manor insurances links to CityBond whom I have already tried - £651 was their quote. Thanks anyway0 -
With all due respect, I don't think either she or you do. How would you feel if you had to sell one or more family homes (or worse) in order to repatriate her?
I agree, If it was me, and the trip was important, I'd bite the bullet and pay the premium. I have never travelled without full insurance and wouldn't dream of doing so. I have crohn's like your mother, and I know that no matter how stable my condition is, a flare-up can come out of nowhere.
I have twice had to claim on holiday insurance because the crohn's put me in hospital. Once the week before we were due to fly, and once the day before. But it could just as easily have been while I was away - though that has never happened (touch wood!).I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

I hear what you are saying - but I certainly dont have the money to pay her premium - if I knew then what I know now - I wouldnt be going with her. Its starting to ruin how I feel about my holiday - its the first time i have ever gone on holiday with her in my adult years. Ive given up going on holiday with my husband and kids to go on this "mother & daughter" holiday.
I assumed that she knew the cost of travel insurance from her last cruise 2 1/2 years ago and added it in to the cost - but it seems she signed a waiver then also according to my Aunt.
She told me this evening its her last holiday unless she can afford the insurance - doesnt really help my situation I know but I cant force her to pay it.0 -
Hi everyone,
Looking for advice
We are going on our wedding next year to Vegas so need cover (and to make it worse just watched Sicko)
I have a pre-exisiting condition of a Primary valve replacement when i was 8 or so and have been fine ever since and go for a check up every 2 years which always come back in good health.
I have also had 2 herina ops in the last few years so they would need to be put down too, can anyone offer any good companies that offer good cover for heart conitions?
Had one quote Travelibity for £117 which is worldwide cover for a year.
Also my wife to be is in great health but does have Hayfever would this need to be brought up too?
Thanks0 -
Do you currently live together? If so, you will probably be cheaper with a couple's policy.
I can only advise that you ring up some of the companies mentioned in this topic for quotes as the premiums can vary widely as Incapuppy and myself can testify.0 -

Apologies if you are already aware of this, but your wife to be will also need to declare your PEMCs and have them accepted by insurers.0 -

Dual, you have my sympathies as it sounds as if your mother is putting you in an impossible situation which must be very stressful. All I can think of is that you sit her down and explain in black and white the consequences of her falling ill due to one of her PEMCs whilst abroad. In the meantime, I would urge you to keep on shopping around until you find a more affordable quote.
I appreciate that my comments are probably adding to your stress, but there is no way on earth that I personally would take the kind of risk your mother is proposing - doubly so because of the area (USA/Caribbean) that you are travelling to.
I too have a condition very similar to Crohn's and I know how unpredictable it can be, the cost of your mother having to be rushed into hospital and possibly repatriated doesn't even bear thinking about.0
