  • How about a female in her 50's diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in June 07 - completed chemo Feb 08 - obviously still having consiltant check-ups but each scan is looking better than the previous.
    Needs cover for
    1) 17 Canadian train tour April 2009
    or
    2) Italian coach tour 1 week summer 2009
    Thank you
  • Not elderly or ill as such, just pregnant. Thought maybe someone on this board might be able to help?

Am Australian and am going back to Oz to have the baby. I have private medical insurance there (which will cover my obstetrician, hospital etc etc so that's all fine) and will be staying at my mum's so nice and safe, don't think I'll be snowboarding/paragliding etc so no risk there either, and not taking much luggage, so basically I just need travel insurance to cover for the flight out there - ie 24 hours, just in case I have the baby early and end up in Singapore during my transit stop, in a hospital there (although I hope not - but then that's what I want/need the insurance to cover me for).

Thus far most policies I've looked at - and I've gone through mot of the big ones - about 20-30 and read the small print - at the best cover you til 32 weeks (although most seem to just do up to 28-30 weeks which isn't ideal), which would be ok as that's about when I plan to fly out. But they don't do one way trips - only for emigrating people, and I plan to return to the UK after 4 months and most trips have a limit of three months cover (plus in any case I don't fancy paying the insurance for the time I'm there as there's no need).

Any suggestions? I'm assuming an insurance broker might be an option, given the web search insurance type companies only do standard type deals for standard cover situations.

Also need cover for my husband (English), but he'll be there for 3 months rather than 4 so we can probably sort
  • How about taking the emigration deal and then a separate policy from Oz for your return?

With a pre-existing medical condition, I found insurers wanted to either load the premium or increase the excess. www.laterlife.com has a link (to a broker called Wisemans) for quotations. The questions you have to satisfy concerning medical conditions are quire basic and providing you satisfy these the premiums quoted are extremely competitive, including world wide annual cover for a couple. You also get a 10% discount for going through www.laterlife.com.

I've done a lot of searching for annual world-wide multi-trip insurance and, although the Post Office's pre-existing questions are much less stringent than most, the Wiseman's policy has even less stringent questions. At £91.80 for a couple (less 15% if you don't take baggage cover) it's also considerably cheaper than the Post Office policy although underwritten by the same company.

  • I apologize if this question has been asked before, but haven't time to look through whole thread.

Does anyone know which insurers will exclude existing conditions, but still provide cover for accidents etc.. I cannot get cover for my existing condition (no diagnosis), but not likely to have any problems with it. Going to Spain so can use EHIC card.

I have spent all morning on this and got nowhere. Any help would be appreciated as going away on Tuesday.

    Thanks

  • If you are a BT shareholder, or work for certain companies (BBC, O2, BT, Network Rail, KFC, Pizza Hut, Whitbread, David Lloyd and a few more) then you can get cheap travel insurance and add cover for some pre-existing conditions through the Benefits Alliance Travel Insurance program.

I got a 1 week single trip to Europe with winter sports for a family of 4 for £27, and added cover for my wife's high blood pressure (Age 43, controlled by 2 tablets) for just £10 extra.

(Note: You MUST be in one of the eligible groups or you can't be covered. Click on Get a Quote from the Benefits Alliance Travel Insurance website and check the 'select your employer' drop down list to see if you qualify).

To check if they will cover your pre-existing medical condition call their Medical Screening Helpline on 0845 218 7171 (tell them the insurance company is Benefits Alliance).
  • Hi guys, hope someone can help me.

I'm going on holiday in December and my gran has just been diagnosed with cancer. She's not travelling with us, but will be having treatment before and during our holiday. I would like to have insurance in place that covers us in the event that (God forbid) she takes a turn for the worse and we have to cancel or abandon our holiday.

My current annual policy would cover us (as the diagnosis had not been made at the time that the policy was taken out), but that expires in a ferw days and I need to buy a new annual policy.

This will therefore be a pre-existing condition on my new policy, and I can't find one that will provide the cover I need. There's lots of info on here for travellers who themselves have cancer, does anyone have any idea of a policy which would be suitable for family members of cancer sufferers??

    Thanks in advance,

    RJ xx
