hey, im a newbie here but i stumbled across the article about travel insurance.
i actually work as an insurance agent in travel insurance. I process travel insurance claims for a number of companies including RBS, Natwest, Moneysupermarket club direct policies and the like. There are far too many to list.
Out of all of the policies, I'd have to say the natwest advantage gold policy is one of the best.
The article talks about buying cheap insurance because you don't need £5million medical expenses cover. however, the cheaper you buy, the higher the excess is. If you buy the cheapest club direct policy from Moneysupermarket, it is a double excess which is a whopping £100, per person, per section.
Another thing about cheap policies is they don't cover very much. I mean, £10 for every 8 hours you are delayed isn't very much (options policy). And the club direct policy doesn't cover you for any damage to your belongings caused by the airline.
When you pay more, you also increase your single article limit, and valubles limit. a lot of people try and claim for items worth 300-400, and are shocked to find that their policy will only pay a maximum of £100 per single item, set or pair of items.
if you buy cheap, be aware and read your policy wording to ensure you know what you're covered for, and what you need to do so that your claim wont get declined!0 -
I am sure this has probably been mentioned before but also remember to check out the policies offered by your credit cards ... the Capital One card I have seems to offer comprehensive worldwide cover (but you would need to check your own for suitability). I always pay for my holiday by credit card anyway therefore why pay extra for insurance.
ivanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Has this now been resolved to your satisfaction?
Cannot see any reason why this should invalidate your policy unless you are doing "manual" work or partaking in any "dangerous" activities[ linked to your work..Many backpackers undertake work whilst overseas and I would be surprised if Endsleigh is any stricter than most other travel insurers on this subject.... ...quote=aka_joey;6753554]My girlfriend and I were travelling in China with Endsleigh's Backpacker Insurance but have now taken up paid employment teaching English. The terms and conditions do not mention if this will invalidate the insurance. I have e-mailed Endleigh to ask them but so far no response. I am fairly sure it will invalidate our cover so does anybody know any Insurers providing cover for English teachers abroad?
Thanks guys[/quote]0 -
Worldwide Travel Insurance cover for pre-existing conditions is a nightmare! You get quoted thousands of pounds in premiums for not only your age but cholestral levels! It's a nightmare..0

Can anyone recommend a good insurer with decend cover and not too expensive? I don't mind paying a little more if the cover is excelent. Single item seems to be limited to £400 max, which is not high enough, I need that inceased.

American Express offer many different types of travel insurance, some of which are restricted to their cardmembers; others available to all. They are a very respected organisation that tends to offer excellent value cover and a very good 24hrs emergency assistance service. You may have "additional" benefits if you are an Amex Card holder eg: Platinum card members have an exceptionally good quality travel insurance incorporated in their annual membership fees which covers several members of the family/party at no extra cost and is on its own worth having . Their "standard" travel insurance is underwritten by a very respected travel insurer also so I'd have no worries there. Like any insurer they do expect custoemrs to "declare" any relevant Previous Medical History (PMH)......0 -
Yorkshire Building Society have added a new savings account for the over 50's. Not especially remarkable interest rate wise, but it may be attractive to travellers as it comes with free annual european travel insurance for those aged between 50-75 years. You need to fund the account with £5k and there a some other strings attached, but it may be of interest to some. Here's a link:
