  • Hi there, my first brush with an annual policy, not good.
Ok so I followed the link to Money Supermarket and bought some annual cover. My other half said "does it cover the hire car" of course it covers your outward journey to your holiday destination I said, missed flights etc.
So as not to be proved wrong when it matters I phoned the company (Top Dog Insurance). No was the answer! it covers ONLY the first flight Not any connecting or onward journey or car hire costs.

In short a load of rubbish! Consider the number of airlines with cheap faires, Ryanair, Easyjet etc, the cost of the policy excess is likely to be more than your flight, the cost of your hire car £200.00 the week NOT covered.

WEALTH WARNING, Thats what you call it Martin, :money: these are dinosaur policies that relate to airfaires when only the rich and famous could afford them.

Q Does any one know of a better annual policy?

Thanks to Money Supermarket for refunding my premium.:T
  • Wander if anyone can help i'm looking for an insurance policy which which cover you if US immigration refused entry.

Basically going to US with a few friends in Summer and have heard of a couple of occasion when us immigration has denied entry under the visa waiver scheme citing suspicion as the reason - needless to say airline didn't refund but would there any such policy which cover such an eventuality ?

Hello there I'm new on this forum. I have booked a holiday with my boyfriend to Paris with STA, last time around we got our travel insurance with them too but I'm wondering if it is ok to get it anywhere else, I looked up some on Travelsupermarket.com and they seem much better value. Would not getting it with who we booked with affect the policy at all? Thank you very much for any help -

You can buy your travel insurance anywhere. Just make sure the policy you go for offers exactly what you want in terms of cover. And get it ASAP, if anything happens today/tomorrow/next week that will prevent you from going then you need to be covered to claim providing those circumstances are covered in the policy.

My daughter (14) wants to travel to Florida in July with her friend and her parents, They already have their own travel cover but cant include my daughter.
When I try to buy separate cover for my daughter the insurers refuse due to her age or assume that I will travel with her (wish I was).
They don't seem to have an option to allow her to carry her own insurance cover while traveling with another party.

Anyone know this one? (links welcome)
    Thanks

You can try the British Insurance Broker's Association (BIBA) as they have a section for children travelling alone that has various name for companies. Loook under Travel: Child Alone here:

I would doubt it. Consider the following: If you were stopped by customs for smuggling drugs, would you expect a travel insurance company to reinburse you for your flights, accomodation, etc because of an illegal act or criminal activity?

You say that they weren't allowed enter because of suspicion - if immigration see justifable reason to disallow entry then unfortunately I doubt you'd be able to claim back anything.
  • I tried them but like nearly all companies they limit trips for the over 65s to 154 days - even for Europe in which we entitled to stay for up to 6 months a year! Having travelled all round the world just before reaching this age for a very reasonable premium it is now almost impossible to find underwriters who don't think I am likely to expire as soon as I cross the channel or that I need £10 million medical cover in countries where there is a first class medical service offered under reciprocal health agreements.

    Hi,

This is probably the most often reason a claim is made on travel insurance, but it looks as though most travel insurances do not cover you for anything, unless you happen have kept in safe in that nuclear bunker you take with you everywhere.

We had a camera stolen last year but could not claim on our travel insurance, although we did manage to claim on the household insurance. Are there any worthwhile travel insurance policies that do actually cover you for your things as well as people?

    Cheers

    Chris
