Going back in this thead a bit...
I don't see why I should show my personal mortgage documents to someone that really has nothing to do with me. Or actually do anything further at all. I have discharged my duty by ringing Npower so now they can dig as big a hole as they like for themselves.
I think that's the best attitude. And from your first post
I'm wondering how much mileage I can have with this without ruining the credit rating of this address
Your address doesn't have a credit rating

Ah now what you should of done from the off is just ignored the letters totally
and never even made an attempt at replying as the Debt Collection companies cant
and wont act on anything if they never get confirmation anyone has read one of their
letters this advice was given to me by my local CAB office and has worked a treat. :)

Yeah - that would have been best. I'm a bit concerned that they now have OP's phone number and will probably use it.

we had huge probs with n-power years back. we changed our supply over to n-power. and we noticed they wrote down we had a key meter. anyway we phoned them to say we didn't , but they said they couldnt help us , as we had a key meter. but we didn't. anyway for a year we never got charged any electric. then a bill landed our door for over £500. so they put a key meter in and we apid the bill back.
anyway we sold the flat and gave then a meter reading and they said they would forward a final bill, which they did, for £130. but this had an estimated reading. so i phoned back up , and gave them the correct reading again. which reduced the bill to £37. so they sent a bill , i paid by cheque. and 12 months later, they sent a debt collectors letter through for £130. i spent hours on the phone, and eventually the girl said , i don't understand what is going on , so i shall just cancel the bill , and end it at that. then asked if we wanted to return to n-power. well i think u know what my answer was.

    *update*

I'm still getting letters from all sorts of credit agencies. Npower now say that the debt is mine and is for payment of gas received last year (total rubbish).

So, yesterday I called my own gas supplier (since 2002) and asked them to start an investigation to put a stop to it once and for all.

Then I rang Npower and issued a counter claim for my time @ £35 per hour and the cost of phone calls, stress from harrassment etc.

They have put a £10 cheque in the post for phone calls and will ring me about the rest. Mwahahahahaha :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think £35 an hour is you selling yourself cheap :)

Good luck, they sound like a bunch of charlatans. I had npower for a short while and everything they did was a right old paperchase. Moved from them a few months ago & not lookin back :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Thanks nicola (it is good advice) but...

you know what? I'm getting stroppy about this.

I don't see why I should show my personal mortgage documents to someone that really has nothing to do with me. Or actually do anything further at all. I have discharged my duty by ringing Npower so now they can dig as big a hole as they like for themselves.

Did I mention I may be a bit hormonal today.... :o

    Hi,

I agree totally. Why do you have to prove yourself to these people.

You have troubled yourself in the first place and contacted NPower which is all that should be expected of you, not then have to prove your innocence.

You have certainly discharged your duty by phoning NPower and I agree it's up to them to do the investigating not you to prove things.

If they insist on chasing you then they will just dig there own hole and if they end up in court then they will end up with egg on their face.

Don't even go out of your way to show them any ID papers, tenancy agreements, or mortgage agreements.

It is your private information and they have no right in seeing it.

If it was me and someone called at the door I would tell them in no uncertain words where to go.

As for NPower I would be contacting the energy regulator to report this.

Apart from that they can come phone, come round to the house as much as the want but the longer it carried on for then I would be taking them to court and claiming harrassment and compensation.

    Don't let them worry you.

You know you are not liable for the arrears and that is all you need to say.

If they decide to ignore you then they are barking up the wrong tree.
