... and good luck to them because it's not my debt. Chancers! (SS stop panicking now
)
We've lived here for four years and have been getting bills for the previous occupant all this time.
Recently, Npower have posted the bills to 'The Occupier' instead of the previous owners' names. When I opened one I rang them straight away and told them that the debt was not mine. Two weeks later - nasty letter threatening court/bailiffs etc from a debt collection agency.
With all due respect and sympathy to those of you that may have had these letters for real, I'm wondering how much mileage I can have with this without ruining the credit rating of this address

My sister had the same problem.
When she moved into her new flat there was an awful lot of post addressed to the previous tenants, who had clearly just upped and left. The companies in question refused to accept that these people had actually left and that the bills were nothing to do with my sister.
Eventually they DID send the bailiffs round, but my sister stood her ground, showed them some ID [passport or driving licence], and her tenancy agreement, fortunately dated just three weeks or so earlier, and informed the bailiffs that they had no legal right to either enter the premises or remove anything from it... she never heard from them again.
I think the key is NOT to let anyone into the premises – if you have to go back inside to get some ID, shut the door in their face, and leave them on the doorstep...If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
We are still getting letters for the previous tenants of our house, we have had all the utilities - water, gas, electricity and even a fine for not having a TV Licence.
However things have subsided over the last couple of months so I think they have got the message0 -
Well I think if I were you I would apply for my credit report to make sure some numptie hasn't financially linked you to the debtor.April 2006 - £9790.26dr. DFD - March 20110

Yes, that bit does worry me.
Too much info for the board but my husband's job is incredibly well suited to this situation. I could really have some fun with this.
It annoys me so much though to think of someone less well equipped to deal with a situation like this. Some people would be scared witless. It's a disgrace :mad:de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar

AFAIK the debt is no longer linked to the address, just to the name of the occupants.
String them along and go for compensation for stress. I would:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
We were told by one of the dca's that if we sent post back to them as "Return to Sender" 5 times, they have to start tracing the previously tenants.
We did have two people call round for the TV licence debt, however they weren't menacing, just 2 very well dressed gentlemen, asked if Mr xxxxxxxxx lived there and we showed them our tenancy agreement and they apologised for troubling us0 -
Annoying bailiffs sounds like a great hobby :rotfl:0

well if the other person has something go to court and a cj awarded and now the bailliffs haave been called in the bailliffs would have to triple check there records for if they took your stuff etc or clamped car etc you have a right to compensation which is why they have to be insured etc ,i found its the old story if its not you you dont need to worry end of story check your credit file see if thats ok but its done on the named person not the address0

Post them a copy of your tenancy agreement if renting or your mortgage papers if you purchased. They will legally need to amend this. If you're a tenant send them your landlord/lady's address and the bill will be sent on to them.£4000 challenge
