I had this problem with ritish gas when I moved in. After TWO YEARS of letters, me sending them copies of my mortgage deed etc I eventully got my solicitor to send a letter stating that they were harassing me & if I got futher correspondence would have no hesitation in taking legal action against them. Strangely enough never heard from them again...worth every penny of the £10 it cost to send!

Ok, so now they've sent a 'telemessage'

    Big letters ...

Immediate Action Required, blah, blah, blah ... failure to contact will result in a/c being passed to DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY or COUNTY COURT for summons.

    Losers!
    de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar ;)
  • What's a 'telemessage'? Never heard of one of these before!
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • Our previous tenants left a stack of debts and we had numerous amounts of letters coming in and then we would send them back until one day the missus opened the door and these two guys insisted on coming in, I heard the fracas as she was getting irate and upset with them and launched myself at the door, baseball bat in hand and told them to get their perfectly formed foot out of my hallway and back on to the step or else I would treat them as an intruder and use neccesary force to remove them from my house, which they did and then conducted a somewhat civil conversation on my doorstep.

They asked for proof of who is was to which I replied do I look like the guy you are after? His name was that long and hard to pronounce but am sure he was from Ghana or Nigeria and I look like a typical Paddy! At that they left and haven't been back since.

Let them take you to court if that's the only way to resolve the situation:mad:
Take your proof to court and ask for compensation for time and stress.

  • We had a similar problem years ago with the water board.
My husband insisted that since it was actually nothing to do with us, he wouldn't answer any letters at all. Eventually they turned it over to the courts and the OH was delighted to have a day off and attend.
He stood up in court with all the proof he needed to show the debt wasn't ours and the magistrate was furious at the Water Board for not getting their facts straight and thus wasting court time.
Hubby had the last laugh (plus he claimed for time off work to attend court) and we never heard about the matter again.

I see no reason why, if you know it's not your debt, you should have to prove it. Leave it to them to try and prove that it is!!
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
