You weren't far wrong!! Legally they do have to consider it and TBH if it was challenged an employer may find it difficult to show that they couldn't allow part time.
The one I refused was a PA who wanted to have 2 of the 3 days her part-time boss worked off  how on earth she thought she could do her job without actually seeing the bloke she worked for I don't know.
On the other hand - I approved my own assistants request to go part-time, even though it meant I was covering some of her work for her!!
Speaking of my assistant - she has got swine flu  she came down with it on Wednesday after I saw her on Tuesday
Poor love, her little boy is only 20 months so can't be vaccinated (although he is the size of a 3 year old so it probably wouldn't do him any harm!)please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
elle it must have been the builders:p
That would explain what they've been doing with their time then!
My grandma was always the one who taught me how to bake (can't cook, but I can bake), and she was everso chuffed when I gave her the recipe for Twinks Hobnobs as something I could do and she couldn't. Turns out she still can't seem to get them "as good as" mine so she said she needs me to go round and teach herShe's going into hospital on Tuesday for a heart operation and petrified she's not going to survive it (her brother went into hospital for a routine op and didn't wake up), so we're going round on Monday to take her mind off it and make biscuits
In the meantime, is it bad that I've just started a shopping list and the first thing is biscuits? :cool:0 -
MFD - if I'm not paying her then I won't be abe to claim the extra until I am paying her, so will get the basic £21 per week instead of £42 until then. So saves me £9 a week really.
I love the 'as long as I can be ar5ed' comment! Will have to try that!
Speaking of biscuits - I have some Toffee Crisp cookies and some Smartie cookies from the big T's, anyone fancy one?Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0 -
hmmm i wonder if they do these at the M&S in the garage lol!!!
i think i came off quite well in the parents in law dept after the things you have all said  the only thing they have ever said in a input type way was "oh are you not BF?" when they popped over on seths first night home and saw OH giving him a bottle, i just said hopefully i would be but he didnt seem to want anything yet and that was it!Mummy to

He is adamant that I am not to feel guilty and I am to go straight to the docs if I get even a hint of those feelings again. He did try to encourage me to go anyway, but I am stubborn and am sure I feel fine currently.
Mel xGlad you had that chat.. You've got us too for rants/encouragement/shoulders to cry on/kicks up the bum (delete as applicable) too, don't forget
Need dodgy hugs? Have them anyway! :grouphug:

Thankyou
And vienese whirls sound like just the thing..
Our house is really lacking in biscuits.. how did that happen?!
I'm still getting that from monster-in-law.. Will have to remember the second answer.. if I'm brave enough! MIL scares me - she's like a really strict headteacher..
I had a really interesting chat about fielding these kind of comments with a wonderful BF counsellor that I met (Benjamin is such a little greedy nipple clamp that I had no BF issues to talk about!!) and she wisely said that you need to be wary that you are not telling them that you are right and they are wrong.
For example, if, like my mum, you formula fed your kids but your daughter or daughter in law is BF then you don't want to hear that BF is better which implies that formula is bad...no mum does anything that they think will harm their child so if you say that you think something is 'wrong' then you are making a comment on their parenting skills (are you following me!! Lorna was much more eloquent!)
It's just a choice thing. So you just say 'I choose to do it this way' which doesn't pass comment on what you think is good and bad.
Please note - I am in NO WAY trying to open the BF/FF debate and I do not personally believe that formula is bad. I BF but Benjamin had the odd bottle of formula too....it is just my choiceplease listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

I get ya, MFD!I think that's where the comments from MIL stem from - she FF OH and SIL (oh, so many abbreivations!) from the start out of choice. Fair play to her, but MY choice was to BF (I think that's laziness tbh - not having to sterilise bottles and all that jazz!), but she always things she's right so I should be doing it her way

LOL - I saw a t-shirt that said 'I'm too lazy to bottle feed' and that is me all over - I also want one that says 'Life's too short for pureeing' or something similar :rotfl:please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120
