Buyer says i've sold a FAKE!

I bought a small electronic device and cables package for unlocking mobile phones at a cost of approx £250 from a high profile authorised approved official reseller, and quickly realised upon receipt i didn't have the expertise or time to make using it viable, so i listed it on ebay.
The buyer paid via paypal, has received the item and now says its a cheap fake. I have forwarded him on the invoice, invoice number and contact details of my supplier and have said a quick call to them will prove the authenticity of the item.
He has replied saying thats not good enough and he bought the item from me not them and won't ring them to prove its authenticity. He also says that because i used a library photo (and a very obvious library photo at that) this is proof i have something to hide and its a fake (!)
He is going to raise an ebay dispute and thus will be directed to paypal. What will they ask of me and how will i prove this thing is genuine? Will they just refund in his favour and what if i don't have funds in my paypal account (and its not a verified account linked to a bank account?)
Thanks in advance
Paul

Oh thank God for that! lol
Let him raise the dispute then, I can't see how he could possibly win.
With regards to the stock photo, if he thought you had something to hide by listing with one, why did he bid?!
Sounds like buyers remorse to me, any genuine person would ring the number on the invoice as you have advised if they were unsure about what they have bought.
I don't see there is anything you can do, just sit tight and wait to hear from Paypal.
Good Luck with it!

Thanks, that was my thinking, but i am paranoid that paypal will accept its a fake and rule in his favour?
Anyone any experience of items not as described disputes in paypal??0 -
My knowledge of not as described claims are they never win the claim providing the seller has sent with tracking.
Does he say why he thinks it is a fake anyway?
Did you use the exact stock photo of the item you are selling, the right model, etc?Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

up until 10 mins ago i would have agreed with you, but just searched this forum and it would appear that buyer who report an item not as described will most likely win....0 -

heres his reply so far and reasoning....
"1st point - you mention is that you used a library picture, why couldnt you use a picture of the actual item you had for sale so that there would have been NO confusion. The item also is different from the pictures on the website as you say. A point to make here is that I dont the auction with YOU and NOT them so it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with them and I certainly wont be contacting them.
Next point, The point I am making is that YOU advertised a XXXXXXX with a library picture and NOT a pic of the actual item. and nowhere in the auction do you say this. You also have put two links directly to /* ProductName */.com, again giving the impression that it is the genuine article. If you wanted people to see the one from where you bought it from, why didnt you put a link to that site instead.I WONT be speaking to the /* Supplier Name */ as it has nothing to do with them at all. If this is not resolved soon then I will file a dispute with ebay. Item's not as described in the auction"
My reply went along the lines of, that i was very flattered that he thought i had the time and ability to take professional backlit photographs of every item i listed however like a lot of sellers i used library pictures for speed and convenience - like Dell laptop sellers or xbox 360 sellers etc, and that the reason i didn't list my supplier was that i wanted to get the best price possible and i didnt want bidders to simply go to where i had bought it instead - i did take a significant loss on the item but i wasn't going to direct people to where to buy it....0 -
But if the picture is a picture of the thing you sent him where's the difficulty? It's not against T&C to use a library picture (is it?) And if the item is genuine everything he says is irrelevant. Have you asked him why he doesn't think it is genuine?

He has only said it 'was a cheap imatation of the genuine item'. I worry how paypal will handle it though?0 -
There is nothing wrong with using library pictures so long as you didnt mention it being a pciture you took yourself of the item. As for paypal taking the buyers side, i seriously doubt they would. Not been through it myself but i guess they can only ask you where you got it from ( suplliers details) whilst it would be up to the buyer to prove the item is fake (by having the item checked out). Well thats how it works in a court of law so cant see it being any different here.0
