Made a decision yesterday/today, I'm looking for a new job. I love the school job, stressful but easy and love the kids and the holidays (except the 6 week one which is toooo long), but I need the money big time. I'm fed up with never having money and never being able to pay all my bills every month. Plus it's not helping with the drinking as I'm in by 4.30pm and the bell tolls, previously when I worked in London I got in at 7pm which is less time of the tolling. Maybe a bit drastic and I know that people would bite a hand off to get the job I've got but things are going downhill so drastically financially that I need to put a stop to it quickly.
I've tried budgeting, bulk cooking, cooking from scratch. I ebay, freecycle etc etc but it doesn't seem to help. I'm desperate to take the kids away on holiday even if just for 3 or 4 days this year but I don't think we are going to be able to manage itwe didn't take them last year as we couldn't afford it. I have no way to save anything, xmas was a nightmare last year because we was so skint. My car needs servicing but can't afford that.
I know money isn't everything and I'll probably be flamed (espesh if this was on the OS board ) but I think it's time to move on to a new job.
There, I've said it. I've done my CV and I'm going up to London on Friday to visit all the agencies.
Good luck Jo. Big decision! Is this a full time position you are looking for?
We were in a real pickle before Mr FH got this new job. We were both working full time. I earned more than him and I felt so much pressure working all the hours and trying to juggle 2 children. We also had debts to pay and it felt like we were working for nothing. Just to pay bills!
Things are certainly looking better now, but what worries we have been though to get here. I'd love to find another job too and I'm registered with a couple of the accountancy agencies here. But I'm so specific about the hours/days I can work, it would be a miracle if I find anything. I hate the job I'm in because I'm invisible because I don't work all the hours that everyone else does. It's a very corporate, male dominated office and it doesn't suit me one bit. I had the BEST job in the world before kids but they re-located and I was pregnant at the time.
It's very difficult when you HAVE to work and raise kids too isn't it? Life I suppose :rolleyes:Need to start again0 -
Hi FH
I know what you mean about invisible . I had a horrible job like that once . It was all agreed that I could go part-time after I had my 2nd son , then 2 weeks before I was due back thay called me and said my job could not be done part-time therefore I would have to work my 40 hrs:mad: . I went back for 2 weeks then resigned . Best thing I did. I am now self-employed and subcontract for a small accountancy practice. The guy I work for is lovely although a bit eccentric and very untidy!! I can work from home if needed ( not always good - I have done no work today:rotfl:) and don't have to worry about taking time off when the kids are ill. It does mean however that I do not get paid for sickness or holidays and I have to take care of my own tax:mad: but the benefits more than make up for it .
Have you found your missing files ?
40SM0 -
Hi 40sm~I had to re-do my spreadsheet  I was a bit miffed to say the least.
To make up for my horrible morning though, I popped out at lunch time and bought the boys a couple of pairs of jeans from H&M and a pair of croc type shoes for the beach trip I have planned for tomorrow. Not very MSE but nothing quite like a bit of retail therapy even if not for me
I hope the sun still shines for tomorrow. No1 son had a bit of a gripe at me this morning because I was going to work and he wanted to go to the beach. So I promised for tomorrow and have managed to arrange to meet a friend there with her two boys the same age.
Roll on home time :jNeed to start again0 -
Hi all....hope you're all having a good day! My day has been SUPER stressfull today...OH back from aborad & has had a 'blip' in her illness (not serious or requiring hospitalisation or anything or as bad as bi-polar, schisoprenia (spelt wrong!)) ...without going in to too much detail it's VERY annoying/frustratiing to deal with (does pass though & each 'blip' is shorter in time & severity)...as I may have mentioned though on her return we usually always have a bit (sometimes a lot!) of booze but not tempted last night at all!
I remember 2 months or so ago on the last 'blip'....dealing with a hangover each day & drinking from mid afternoon onwards to block out the 'stress' of dealing with her blips...looking back YES the 1st drink was NICE but subsequent drinks do not have the same 'high' & just made me LESS patient!
So although stressed to high heaven & i know ONE drink would be nice ( al arge scotch!) I know that the effect will be short lived & I'll just want more & be short tempered & impatient with her.
Well pleased...tonight with be my SEVENTH af day! Tired today but this is good as sleep patterns now reastbishing themselves so tonight should be a good nights kip!
Will save that large scotch for when she's 100% again (within 2 wks tops or less!)!
At least I can clinically look at what the cost of booze would be to me now & make an informed decision without cravings!
She's gone to an assertivness course today-she was referred by her nurse-& to her the very fact that she has made herself go to this whilst having annoying intrusive thoughts is SO confidence building for her!
See you all later!0 -
Just popping in quickly to say Bye for a week....

Here I am! i'm not at work & therefore am busy :rotfl:
All this talk of new jobs....very good luck! I don't hate my job but have been there far too long & am bored bored bored & getting v stale; v small family firm so can't develop / change role where I am. It's a very cushy number; they depend on me big-time, I know nobody's indispensable but they'd be in big trouble if I left! But no longer at all fulfilling. In fact it's in my top 10 lists of reasons I drink
Caz - I cried when I had my eyebrows waxed. In fact I cry when I try & pluck them so am now letting them go au naturel. Hope I haven't developed a monobrow.
YM & WBF enjoy hols & long weekend.
FH - Fannie & !!!!!!? I've just been reading a book about them:D
(for those of you old enough to remember Fanny Craddock - the cook / chef - one programme ended with Johnnie (!oh no...) saying "I hope all your doughnuts turn out like Fanny's"):rotfl:
