The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 4

Hello all,
Well slept better than I hav for ages! Hardly remembr that bit where 'you are thinking about dropping off to sleep' (!!)...obviously lack of alcohol helps greatly & as I said before been reading a paul mckenna book & cd re: sleeping.
Blood pressure this am 133 over 96 !!! Pulse 77. This is GREAT news as lowest yet (see my previous posts!).
Other 1/2 lands back at 5-20 pm tonight so a bit of flat cleaning (!). Having to order a curry to collect on the way back (she's been on & on about it-4 weeks of French food....you can tell she's 1/2 british now after 10 years here!)! Another 'ritial' to break...on her return her parents normally give her a bottle of whisky to give me & we normally have some....no whisky this time but she's got some wine! I won't be partaking (wine in any case is not my usual tipple) so another little 'habit' broken! All these things I've changed can be 'drawn on' for me down the line if needed....if for example a friend comes up to stay (& we have a few beers/drinks) & I need to NOT have any booze day after he leaves (the old habit...just carrying on every day)...to sort of say 'well it CAN be done', 'it's easy', 'remember when' etc..
Hope you all have a good day!0 -
AF yesterday. A whole night of real sleep. Outweighs the 2 or 3 hours hugging a stella.DC.

My kind of holiday mate :T Love the sound of rain on the canvas too (during the night !)
Have a good one.
Miss P - 18 Units for me please. I must get a day 1 too soon

Good morning all!
Everyone ok today? I was shattered too last night. Was in bed by 10 and didn't even hear OH come to bed. He had been quiet all evening too (bit tired I think) so wasn't much company anyway!:rotfl:
GP - sorry to hear you will miss your target. Sure you will still get a jumpy anyway(you deserve one for all that cycling!)
FH - I'm sorry you're feeling down. Bis and GC are right (as usual!), sometimes we HAVE to have help. There are all sorts of help out there. Even your own family. I have told my Mum and my SIL that I am not drinking and why. I know that one or the other of them will keep me on the straight and narrow at family functions and things. I feel I need that backup when I'm feeling wobbly. Maybe your OH would be the best one to talk to? Doesn't matter if he's a drinker. My SIL is a drinker but fully understands why i need to do this. Yes, it WILL change things forever. But trust me, life without those feelings of guilt and uselessness (when you can't resist) feels great! I know I'm only at the beginning of my AF road, but I can already see the benefits. I hope you can sort something out. ((hugs))
Well everyone is on about holidays and I'm feeling slightly jealous (except of YM, I hate camping!:rotfl:). OH's ex rang to say she is taking the kids (+ her other two) to Weymouth to stay in a hotel for a week in a couple of weeks time. Despite her saying she has no money. Made me feel really green with envy. Not a feeling I like, to be honest. Immediately started seething about having to save for a YEAR to go to the Isle of Wight next year. But then decided thats wasted energy. I'm happy to save for it and at least I know we'll have a good time. Part of the new me....try to be happy!!!! I do have a tendency to take things to heart a bit much so I'm trying to lighten up a bit.
On a good note....my Dad won lots on a dog yesterday! And he gave me some!:T:j Usually I would have run to a shop and bought a box of wine and lots of other junk. Instead I've hidden it away and am planning what to do with it. £20 already gone into the holiday fund!:T So I'm a happy Miss P today. And a talkative one, it seems! Best get on. have good mornings everyone!
Miss P

Welcome scottishskintgirl, enjoy the ride on the train, mad sometimes with all our great and lovely members!
All ok here, was soooooooooo tired last night, dragged myself off to bed and slept mega heavy, all AF of course! Glad I didn't cave in to the glass of
vermouth and ice. Gave myself a talking too instead about if I have completed something, feel a bit low or a bit elated why do I think about congratulating myself with a glass of wine or aperetif? Polished off several glasses of Ribena instead!
Hang in there everyone, baby steps if needed to get one day under our belts. Isn't it funny how we can do great AF one month and then it is so very difficult another month and it feels so very hard to do one day AF. We'll be ok.

h-e-l-l-o .. thought I would wander in - I would love to stop ..well even cut down drinking . Just too much of a habit I'm afraid. Evening ..in the house... I will just have one drink ... but it doesn't stop there does it? I mean there's wine left in the bottle!!
Well thats my introduction and I would love to have lots of alcohol free days in August - starting today. I love to have a drink but I know I feel bad the next day, as in this morning I am not 100%.
As I have just quickly looked at this forum can I join a list stating so many AFD's.
Many thanks

GreyPilgrim wrote: »Meh, is the best word of all. It's the verbal equivalent of just shrugging your shoulders at someone (and actually doubles it's expressive powers if you shrug your shoulders while doing it)
for example:
"I asked you to do this by 11am, and now it's 12 o clock. You haven't even started. Whats wrong with you?"
*shrugs shoulders - "Meh"
My kids use this one alot 'MEH' they say!!!! - I do use PAH - but love also 'BLEURGH' - kinda an exaggerated YUK or PAH.
my other favourite when confronted with something I don't understand or why I haven't done something or if I don't know what to do I say
'RHIDDDUNNNNNO' (said in the manner of Scooby doo - in a similar voice sillly like Scooby doo - the dog that can actually speak......:D
Morning all - anohter touch and go AFD for me yesterday.
I SHOULD have stayed at my best friends - which generally involves alot of gin and tonics and putting the world to rights. She did try and persuade me to stay BUT - I only stayed for tea - went back to stay at OH house (30 miles away so had to drive and therefore couldnt drink) - she was a bit miffed but gavve a pork pie excuse of an early meeting in Edinburgh so I needed to be back at OH house.
Well I do have an early meeting with a paint brush this morning and with you lotand i can see Edinburgh over the sea in the distance - so not exactly a big fib.
Managing life slightly differently doesnt always work - but - a strong strategy to avoid the stuff is also working slightly better
Those who are off for some other help as well I salute you and good luck - seriously thinking of going when I go back - drinking over some of my summer holidays has set me back months and every day is a major struggle again - I did prefer the person who thought - um no just tonight I wont succumb.
Budgie I do hope you find a decent mattress
Yah to camping I love camping
Miss P - you do sound pretty up at the moment - the kids will have fun regardless and you are right is it worth your head space - NO!
Hugs to those feeling a bit BLEURGH - waves to all - and hello to newbies.
Still struggling big style - made OH meet me on the beach and walk until 10pm last night just so I couldnt buy any wine - he had no idea and thinks I am all romantic like:rotfl:
I seem to need to be locked in a cage from about 4-5pm til 10pm - whilst I know that does indeed make some people happy - its more for my own self preservation:D
Maybe I should put an ad in the local paper - local lunatic needs locking in a cage from 5-10pm - um on second thoughts perhaps not???Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
