Hello! Sounds like everyone's being very strong tonight (well, those that are on here ) - here's hoping it lasts through the evening.

Cos I feel so tired from the pills (honestly, it's worse than being hungover ) I've been very lazy this afternoon & watched telly (actually, a tape of the prog I was too drunk to stay awake thro on Friday eve, or remember the bit I watched for that matter. Anything on after 9pm I always switch the tape on when it starts even if I think I feel OK & am wide awake, I know what's likely to happen :o)

More telly tonight I guess, or a bath & book. The problem with this tooth-hole is I can't keep consoling myself with drinks (of any sort other than water) or snackies cos every single time I have anything it has to be followed up by a hot salt rinse (YUM! - not) to stop it getting infected again. I've been really good at doing that since Friday but it's still not healing up very well; sorry to MOAN, it's just all been going on for too long!

    Miss P 3 days please.

have a good evening all x

    Hi all,

Well, checking on day 1 for me for the month, and am feeling decidedly chipper!

Wasn't AF on the weekend though - it was my niece's 12th birthday on saturday so my parents organised a bbq (which involved eating for too much and a fair amount of old speckled hen and white wine thrown in as well).

Last night I finished off the 2/3rd's of the bottle of wine left in the fridge from Friday, so am clear for achieving the first 1/4 of my target AF target for August this week.

I see other comments about wine bells and can really relate - I only live a few doors away from a 24 hour Tesco, so mine can ring at any time up until 11pm  Grr!!!

Am off to do some chores in a bit and watch Airline at 8pm on ITV1 so will pop back a bit later!

I had to forgive myself, and do esteemable acts to learn to love myself. It took effort, and parts of it were uncomfortbale.
It has been worth it, and recovery for me is all about the journey, not the destination.

sometimes you can tell that we've been to similar places in similar ways and thankfully seen a similar light....

I hears a guy on the radio talking about what it was like to be famous celebrity, travelling round the world and doing loads of stuff...when asked was it fun, he wasn't really sure but agreed that it would have been nice to talk a look out of the window sometimes and appreciate it all....I get annoyed when I see that people don't seem to value what they have and who they already are and what they can be.....if that's the only useful thing that's come out of this process, that alone was worth it.

    take care everyone....
For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 2007

I always try and appreciate the 'moments' as they occur. But it's hard sometimes.

I'm afraid to say I had my glass or two. I don't know what has happened to my spitits in the last day or so. I'm feeling pretty down and am thinking that I should maybe go down the route that Jo is taking. Perhaps I need help with this and I should confess to Mr FH when he comes home. I know with absolute certainty that he would understand and support me. But life would never be the same would it? "Lets have a glass of wine babe" as he says.

Surely I can control this on my own. Or was I born with the gene that killed my dad

    Much love X
    Need to start again :o

Hope you don't mind i'm new to this but here is my twopenneth worth.

You don't have to do this alone if you feel you can't.

I used a book, some swear by AA others get help through counselling or by just having the support of this board.,

Talk to Mr FH, he will understand and yes life will never be the same again it will be better.

It isn't easy, we wouldn't be posting on here if it was but you can control/stop whatever you want to do.

The help is there, just ask.

Well I'm chuffed tonight as NO craving AT ALL to buy booze! 5 nights is where I last caved in. Aiming for 7 nights in a row...

Forever hopefull....I've been on 2/3-3/4 bottle of spirits nearly EVERY NIGHT recently...& I found the cravings dissapear for me anyway after day 2! I've read the Allen Carr book (gleaned something from that...especially about the brainwashing re; alcohol)....I've looked at SMART approaches to help (google smart recovery-look for the forum-all sorts of FREE help with cravings, etc)...also google 'EFT for alcohol addiction' , EFT is a sort of self-hypnosis that again is free...check it all out. I've taken bits from all these....I think the secret is that 'you control the booze' 'it does not control you'...I know easier said than done but if you devote say 1/2 a day & look at all these approaches plus maybe do some 'pros' for booze & the 'negatives''...when it's all written down it's a lot clearer!

I don't mean my post to be patronising in any way & it's up to you which way you approach it but all the previously mentioned things have give me strength over the years...

On a different note I've not cleaned flat yet & G/F is back 5pm tomorrow...methinks an early am cleaning session!
  • Hi Hope all is good with you all, i have beeen following this thread for a while i am loving it! i would love to join the august challenge pls put me down for 24 days? i have done 2 so far but have had a little drink tonight XXX

  • Evening,

Hugs to those that need them. Lots of interesting comments on here today. Have found it really thought-provoking.

I've had a major craving tonight - don't know where it came from. Have been out for a walk but it didn't really help. Luckily all the shops are closed and there's nothing in the house.

Keep telling myself - this too shall pass. Need to practice some urge-surfing techniques!

Back to Allen Carr for a re-read...

    xx
