Rainy and cool up here. But the forecast is fab for the rest of the week for a change.
    .

Due to be lovely down here in Reading too all week. YM, please count me and my AF days (see, getting the hang of the lingo too!) for september - have been AF every day so far and no prospect of anything tonight either - like Forever Hopeful I would have to stop off somewhere to buy it on the way home and am simply not going to demean self to do it!
Good luck everyone - doing very well so far.

  • Something to make you chuckle and perhaps take your mind off things:

Today here - ferry sailings stopping later - severe weather warning from 4pm-1am - winds of 80MPH.

Normal day on the isles really :)

Walks off to tie down the house :)

Won't be getting my brolly out today :)

Ooh, that's a good idea! Though the thought of doing it outdoors is scary, plus I live in London

I've been told, and as I know nothing don't know if it's true, that once you've got the practical ability then your size/shape doesn't matter

I suppose someone could read this and think "erm, doing WHAT outdoors is scary, and why is London any different"

So I'll just remind everyone that it's climbing we're talking about.

    :)

I think it's true to a certain extent, but if you imagine how harder it would be to climb a ladder with a 30 pound rucksack on, you'll appreciate that the lighter you are, the easier it is.

There's a well known climber called John Donne (might be Dunne) who often gets mentioned when this discussion comes up - he's a really big lad by all accounts but is a great climber too. Moral is, you can compensate for extra weight by better foot placement and extra finger strength, but at the end of the day, common sense will tell you that every extra pound you carry is working against you.

Trust me, I speak from experience...it's been politely pointed out to me on numerous occasions that "gravity is not my friend"...

It's absolutely no reason not to get stuck in though. There are lots of different grades to climb.
  • Re climbing Jo is the size of a whippit - so she should be ace at it :)

    Jammy cow!!!

It is a slight balance though. Being a bigger person gives you a much bigger reach, and I've watched shorter climbers struggle to do do something in two or three moves, when I've been able to reach up and do it in a single move.

But thats no excuse for the weight. If I lost two stone, I'd still be the same height. It's a win-win motivator for lardloss...
  • Very true

    Hello!

Truly enjoyed reading all the messages but now I have completely forgotten my comments. :o

No bells today on the way home which means that no alcohol in the house which means that another AF day for me (8 AF in September YM). I am really proud of myself as did some yoga before getting a cup of tea and now I am feeling great. I am going to start gently as not to knacker myself as that is what happened every time before and made me stop. I am dressed in my dreadful leggins so no way I am going to go out in these :D.

Have fab evening everyone!!! Catch up later! :hello:
