Morning all
I am looking forward to being AF today again  I never thought I would hear myself saying that :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
End of July and whole of August are full of holidays and celebrations, but considering I used to drink every single night and struggled to make even 1 AFD I really am looking forward to being AF today - gawd knows how I used to drink every day :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Now then, I DO intend drinking when I am away on holiday in a nice restaurant eating a yummy meal, and I DO intend drinking on all the big celebrations that are coming up [yet more in a couple of days ] I am a cutter downer, not outer and that is the way I always planned it to be - cut out drinking in the week except for holidays and special occasions/celebrations etc.
For that reason I have decided to opt out of Augusts challenge as I won't be around much anyway and fully intend enjoying my time away not worrying and feeling guilty because I am drinking on a Tuesday night and have to fess up :rotfl::rotfl:;)
Normal service will be resumed in September when the holidays and partying are finally over :T0 -
And a very wet :grouphug: from me.

Happy Group Hug day
I've got a splitting headache after a bottle of wine last night. I justified it because my mum was annoying me. I like her coming down to stay, but one night is enough :rotfl:She's doing me a favour looking after the kids, so I shouldn't be mean. But she just 'does my head in sometimes.' Like last night she asked me if it was okay to put my heating on because she was cold. It was a little bit chilly, but I don't put my heating on in July, no matter what the weather. I obliged and within half an hour, the thermostat was saying 25 degrees! Heating went off!
Budgie~thanks for sharing your story about your dad. Super that he turned his life around. Shame my dad didn't. I go from thinking "what a shame" to "what a selfish man"
RA~it's great that you are here to tell us your story. Do you still have your family around you?
I'm back in work today and busy, busy, busy. So won't be around until evening. I will raise a glass of juice then.
Much love XNeed to start again0 -

Good for you. Nothing wrong with setting targets for cutting down and then sticking to them. That's the way cutter downers should do it.
No need to feel guilty as you have done nothing wrong.
The bigger issue is when people set targets and fail to make them. They they feel powerless over alcohol, and get that feeling of despair.
That gets bad as sometimes people can have the 'f88k it' approach - I have failed my target so may as well drink for the rest of the month.
It is never too late to start the month again
If cuttterdowners find it hard to stick to targets, perhaps they may attempt being AF. If that is too hard, then perhaps other methods should be employed as well as this thread.0 -
Good article here (scroll to near bottom)

I like this bit:I'm not against drinking - people who don't have a problem with alcohol should enjoy it - but there are five pretty good rules of thumb to indicate if you are in trouble.
First: are you using it as a coping mechanism? Second: are you using it as a medicine - prescribing it to make you feel better, pick you up, ease a cold, help with flu? Or, third, are you drinking more than you planned - going out for a quick glass, then staying until 2am and having a bottle instead? Fourth, are you using it despite the consequences - for example, is it making you late for work? And fifth, are you using it despite the concern of other people?0 -
Miss P,
I have been thinking about my target for August and think I will count units instead of days.
My target units for August are : 62 (2 units per day/14 per week).
This should equate to roughly 7 bottles of my usual wine.
I would love to drink less than this but we will see how it goes.;)
Love
