Hello again, thanks for the welcomes. Last night I did have a bit of wine to drink but nothing major - feel very edgy today though. Maybe because I know I need to stop I think about drink a lot!
thinking about things to do in the evening, I always used to do a bit of needlework or sewing in the evenings when I gave up smoking as it kept my hands busy. JO, are you crafty at all - even something like a cross stitch kit is easy and quite occupying?Trying to keep in budget.

Hi all,
I'm still AF I'm pleased to say. More passionfruit J2o with lemonade tonight. Am craving a drink already (it's Bank holiday w/e, it's saturday, sun is shining, I've abstained for ages, we're having a "movie night" tonight - the list of reasons to drink continues in my head.......) but I am going to stay AF. None in the house and I'm staying put!
Jo - so sorry that you are feeling so sad. Sorry if you've already tried this, but how about going to an AA meeting, particularly as you feel you need to fill your evening time?? They are really helping me, as you know. Might be something to think about, possibly??
WB - That suggestion of having a saturday or 3 to yourself rather than at your OH's is not a bad idea. Sounds like he may be taking you for granted at the moment. You need to show him who's in control!!!
Anyway, better help my OH with the gardening instead of sitting on here posting. Will probably check back in later.
Love and hugs to you all and best of luck and good wishes to those who are aiming for an AF Saturday. :A

Still AF, despite a few days of having loads of relatives down to stay. I've now got used to going into my local and just having soft drinks (but that was really tough - I had to stay in the beer garden the first couple of times and give others the cash to go to the bar, but I eventually plucked up the courage and had to stop the barman automatically pulling a guinness when he saw me.)
Anyway we're all off down to Devon now til midweek, so have a good 'un all of you, and keep with it.
Have a great time snowy. I am jealous I LOVE DEVON.

Have read loads on here today & it is truly inspirational how you all support each other so firstly would like to say you are all stars:T:T:T
Having had issues in the past I am finding myself increasingly drawn to the wine again. I have a lot of stress in my life right now (that I am dealing with slowly) & I drink to make those bad thoughts go away...it works on those lonely evenings, but then I feel ashamed of myself in the morning when I see an empty bottle & know that my situation is still the same & that bottle cost me £5 that I can ill afford !! On top of that there is the health & weight issues too.
I feel I may need a bit of help but have decided to save all the money I would have spent on the demon drink...I suspect I will have my `fall off the wagon` days but I really need to do this.
So today is my DAY ONE !! :j:j & my first fiver is going into that pot.

It didn't :undecided thanks RA for your post as well :A
Had a row with OH and the rest was history, self sabotage etc etc (GC feel free to quote ), getting sick of bleating on here. Had fleeting thoughts of lying to you lot this morning to save face at least with you and not have to explain myself, but, what's the point
I need a plan, counsellor talked to me about this yesterday, said I need something new to fill the time cos evenings are so long. OH just bought himself a new bike, his old one is in the shed, gonna have a look to see if it's ridable (sp?) then I might give it a goI dunno, I need something to help change me otherwise I shall be dead soon after a possible long drawn out illness (this is not said in jest but the truth), why can't that be enough to spur me on
Bis, GC, Eselt, RA, please tell me why....
Gotta go, feel sad
xx
Some people drink until they die, some people lose families/houses/jobs/relationships/health before they stop, and others get off the descending elevator at a slightly higher point.
Rest assured, things will get worse as alcoholism is a progressive disease.
Just stopping drinking and filling my time with other things would not have worked for me, as I tried it.
I need to change my life, my thinking, my reaction to the world, etc
Alcohol is not the main problem here - life is the problem.
When you get desperate enough you will be willing to do anything to stop, though unfortunately some people (like Tangochick's dead husband and father of her kids) never got desperate enough to want to stop drinking.
Quitting drinking is not easy for alcoholics - look how few targets are ever reached on the monthly AF list.
You need the gift of desperation, where you HONESTLY think and say to yourself "I will do ANYTHING to stop drinking"
You need to admit complete defeat to alcohol - that you are totally powerless over it, and your life is unmanageable.
I was talking to a friend of mine who is a counselor - and this friend had lunch recently with a well renowned Professor of addiction at UCLA.
The Professor said that in all his experience of addiction, the only way to get better is to admit and accept you are addicted. People who fight it will lose. People who surrender to it get better.
For alcoholics, it is admitting that just one single mouthful of beer/wine/whatever is too much. No alcoholic can drink safely.
Alcoholics need to stop thinking they can beat this by themselves. They cannot0 -

Oh darling, sending you big ((hugs)) . Jo , you are one of the best things about this thread. You are so lovely, funny and very caring & supportive to others on this thread. Go back and read your posts when you were alcohol free for 3 weeks or so .... you were so positive & upbeat ... that is a good place to be ... alcohol puts you where you are now . I am a much nicer, happier person when I don't drink so why do I drink..
I do know what you mean about finding something to do in the evenings . Drinking relieves the boredom:D:rolleyes: Perhaps we can start a Marian Keyes bookclub ( her book sales have probably rocketed in the last few days:rotfl:) or perhaps a YM supper club .:p
Hope you feel a bit brighter later .. :A
