Hugs to you FH, you are such a lovely person :)

I'm seeking out AA meetings tomorrow, I've had enough.

I would love to be able to take you to a meeting Jo, but guess that it is not really practical.

I've just read back on my post and I think I maybe posted in haste :o

Sorry Graeme, although I know you won't mind what I said. I was taking it all a bit personally I think, as if your reply was directed at me.

Once again, apologies. No malice intended (((hugs)))

I liked your post(s) too FH, I find the sort of comments you're talking about alter the whole tone of the thread for hours at a time. Certainly not helpful to me.

11AF please Jo.

Sorry to hear you're having a really bad evening Jo. Good luck tomorrow. I couldn't find that strange huggy smilie for you - perhaps it's been banned!!

Catch you all later, nice to see people back from hols safe and sound, looking forward to my weekend next week (I think)- taking DS and mate to Knebworth to see Metallica and Linkin Park, have promised them (this time) I will keep well away from the mosh pit-baah.

You can't go see Metallica and keep away from the mosh pit. Tell you want, I'll pop up to knebworth and kidnap you so we can go down the front and you have an excuse for your kids. You're on your own with Linkin park though.

And apropos of nothing I am the proud owner of a camper van T shirt too. A while back people seemed to be starting a club.

Monday will be tricky for me but I will try if the rest of you are. Ooh, real life group meet sounds very strange to me.

Hey, ginger nights, you still around on here? Howdy to heath too.

Another one for me please Jo so that's 11/16 for me.

Although I find GCs posts a bit more difficult than some other people's I also often feel they reflect a very different point of view than mine and I think that it's good for me to read them and think. I have to admit sometimes I feel alienated or unconfident by the feeling that there's some kind of standard of not drinking that I'm not meeting. I can't believe I'm sober and struggling to express myself about this.

FH, I liked your post and it made me smile that you'd updated in less than four minutes after the first. I thought it used to be sleeping on it although the monitor wouldn't be very comfy.

I'm glad that both of you are on here and posting as I need to learn about dealing with this alcohol stuff better and find lots of the words on here help that. Although some of it is just plain silly.

I used to be articulate and profound, now I'm just sober.

G'night all.

I read Graeme's posts with interest. But I don't always agree whole heartedly with his advice to some. Patricularly those who are struggling but trying. Surely we have all recognised we have a problem but don't necessarily have alcoholism. By my age (36 :o) my father was an alcoholic. By 44 years old he was dead. He was drinking bottles of spirits every day and was known to every off licence in the area. I don't think the majority of us are at that stage? A bottle of wine a night is too much! It isn't healthy and we've got ourselves into a bad habit. But drinking ourselves into oblivion it is not!

Thanks for the post. Healthy debate is great, and it would boring if we all had the same ideas. My thoughts are no more valid than anyone else's, and I know I am frequently wrong in many things.
I only said I was an alcoholic - I don't think I said anyone else was. If I did, I apologise and was mistaken.
Many people progress in their drinking. I bet when many of us started drinking, we weren't drinking like we are now. That the progression of this thing.
It eventually leads many (but not all) to death, jail, homelessness, etc
You can still drink too much even if you never drink to oblivion. A bottle of wine a night, like your example, is drinking too much, but certainly not oblivian. If it is just a bad habit, then it can be stopped easily. I used to have a bad drinking habit!!

Drink dependency can lead to a bigger problem and hopefully by recognising the problem we can deal with it. I find the hopeful nature of this forum so lovely. But when I read GC's posts I get a little depressed. Sorry Graeme X. I know you only speak fact and from your own experience. But telling someone to go seek help elsewhere if this forum isn't helping.......isn't really helping?

My posts are nothing but my honest opinion. Drink is a depressive. Recovery is fantastic. I hope I don't bring the thread down, as I am a happy soul.

If people are really trying to quit/cut down and they are not managing it, they should try getting help elsewhere. This thread (like AA and all other treatments) has its limitations.
If something doesn't work, tr something else. Surely that is sensible??
• I have so many regrets. I'm having them tonight actually. Mr FH is back offshore and starting a new job. He's sacrificing so much for us as a family to be out there earning money. I had just put my eldest to bed and was walking down the stairs and thought to myself, not once have I said "thank you" What a nice gesture it would have been to put a Good Luck card in his offshore bag with a little note inside. But instead I'm often so self absorbed that I don't 'think'. I have been trying harder. But yesterday was a typical example of me being a little bit hung over, not communicating with him and just expecting him to pick up the pieces. It wasn't until he went away this morning that it hit me and I cried. He is such a lovely man and tries so hard. But I often don't give anything back.

Dear FH
This post really touched me. My DH passed away just over a year ago. And in my darkest moments I think how selfish I/we may have been. Not enough gestures of thank you or appreciation. So busy with doing this or that.
The fact you are aware and want to change is great. Stay with it :) Hold your loved ones close.

Apologies for non AF related comments. Just something about FH's post.

I use to feel like this almost every day - but many many folk on here told me - bright shiney new day - what's done is done and we can only find our own way.

I would hate for you to feel like this - I certainly I don't think there is any standard to reach just our own paths. So I hope perhaps some of this babble is reassuring

Before reading this thread and I did for months before posting I had NEVER been able to speak about drinking, how I felt or have even ONE AFD in about um....12+ years........I love this little place - its probably the only place I am truely honest to others and to myself although it has given me the courage to talk to a few friends about things and to be more honest with myself. And to sometimes be brave.

Hugs WBF - you are ace and deserve to feel proud of your acheivements rather than the other feeling

As do we all.

I often think of the film (my favourite) - The Dead Poets society - in the square when the boys are shown to march and conformity. (If you haven't watched it then please do its awesome)

'Find your own path' said the lovely Robin Williams chap.....he quoted this:

'......Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference'

Robert Frost (1874–1963). Mountain Interval. 1920.

I have my own stripey socks road to travel (stripey socks long story) so I hope we all find our own way through this....xxx

Sorry for the deepness - been a bit touched by the thread lately. xx

Meet up - was kinda only kidding - although sometimes I do wish I knew you all 'in the flesh' what an amazing group of people we all seem to be.
