Hi....WELL DONE! If like me you're used to the 'habit' of constant heavy drinking then day one is the hardest....why not write down how jubilent you feel now?? usefull as if you have say 7 days AF it's easy (well in my opinion) to become complacent so have your 'diary' to reinforce the resolve!

Gout seems a bit better now...will hold off on drugs this pm if herbals carry on working...

My OH says I am completely different when drinking, sometimes funner (word? who cares!) but often a bit more pre-occupied (ie how much wine I can shove down my throat without him noticing).

One of the reasons me and my partner have just split up, I am okay some of the time but the rest, awful, just awful, read too much into the most innocent of things said and just cause a row and he had his own issues with drink (father I think) so didn't want to handle it - can't say I blame him really :o

Would also spend >£20 on treats at the supermarket of an evening or on the way home just to be able to put a bottle of wine in the trolley too - I can't shop at night time now.

To counteract that (cos I did do that as well) I am doing a 2 week shop today, even down to UHT milk so I dont need to go near a shop for that long. No excuse then eh :D

Lol how sad do I sound - I need to police myself constantly at the mo

    Me definitely too

    Take care

Thanks DM - great idea - I'll do that - I've also updated my "how much money I've saved from not drinking" spreadsheet and I'm on £7.83 so far (that's 2 days):j:j:j

Also, as I'm out tonight and will be having a drink, I'm going to try and compare how I feel today with how I feel tomorrow - should help!?

Glad the Gout is getting better - bet the AF days are helping that too...?

    Oh dear.

Had a REALLY bad night last night, alcohol-wise. I can't really understand how I could let myself go absolutely bananas with the vodka.

I scoffed well over half a bottle and got p*ssed as a tit, as I hadn't eaten (just like old times....). Then we got a takeaway because I insisted on getting one (even though we are trying to watch the pennies) and I ended up spilling it all down my top while I was eating it, because I was all over the place drunk (just like old times.....).

Slept in the spare room on my own and had a terrible night and I feel dreadful this morning - thick head, very annoyed with myself, sickie tummy, aching (just like old times....)

WHAT THE F*CK AM I DOING??????

For the first time ever, OH had stern words with me this morning, as she was so disappointed. I don't blame her.

Whilst that was only my 2nd day in 15 that I have had alcohol, I'm frightened by how easily and seamlessly I slipped back into my old vodka routine. I just didn't give a toss last night.

Of course I am now resolving never to do it again, but I resolved that over 2 weeks ago and I've had 2 slip-ups already. I'm off to another AA meeting tonight to talk/think it over.

I hope you all had a better evening than me!

    Hugs,
    Caz

Like many on this thread, you are alcoholic, and most alcoholics drink

Feel slightly damaged after typing the words tupperware and fetish in the same google search.....

Thank the lord I am at work - I wouldn't ever dare googled that here :D

YM - you've made me giggle with all your confessions of tupperware and being all pluffed up.

Waiting for MP's or MSP's whatever we call them up here who are visiting - so my current sea-monster locks have been battled and cajoled into a nice chigon for the occasion and I even have make up and heels on (and even jewellery!) almost unheard of and folks don't recognise me without me wellies on :) and various bits of trees in my hair.

My head is still muddled - but only my own nonsense none of the dreaded wine.

Jo you are so right - Any AFD is an acheivement - mind on chaps - we only started counting them and setting targets in January (??) - it started as a one off and continued on to spurr us along - it is great and motivating and any counting and rackign up the days should be seen as an additional bonus. Not to demotivate  just remember every day any of us manage is brilliant :D:D:D:D:D:D and if we have a bit of a slight trip up - we are after all trying very hard and collectively supporting each other.

I haven't made a target once since I started I dont think. Each day as it comes and don't get down hearted chaps and chappesses.

However, before joining this thread I can't say I had an AFD in a bout a billion years.

SO its all ace however it works, targets tupperware fetishes and all :) and I salute you all :)

    *should be painting the bathroom*

    'Nearly' Afternoon all :)

DD1 has gone out job hunting and so I'm left home alone with the 2 little'uns

I did a Tesco shop yesterday, only a small one, which means I don't really have to leave the house for the next 2 days

Looking forward to going back to work next Thursday to get back into the old routine. Really hoping that some of the jobs I've been after invite me for interview so I can change the routine completely (again...).

Has anybody seen my motivation anywhere whilst mooching around this thread cos I've lost it and can't get my bum off this chair....the bathroom will remain unpainted until I find where I left it... :)

Funnily enough...NO...the alcohol free days seem to make it worse!

From what I understand..if you have a gout attack uric acid crystals settle on your joints (think stirring salt/sugar into water to make crystals like you did as a kid..once water is 'saturated' no more sugar will disolve...same as this with the blood & uric acid to a degree)...causing infalmation if joints & red/swollen flesh around it. Your body thinks the crystals are 'germs' & attack them..coating them in some sort of film??

So....when you stop drinking your uric acid level DROPS & the old crystals redissolve...causing gout again!

It's certainly your body's 'payback time' for years of abuse!

That's a bummer! Just think of the good you're doing to other parts of your body when you have an AFD though - I've read that your liver can recover quite well, your skin improves etc. - if the herbals are helping the gout then that's got to be good - if you can get rid of it completely, surely that'll be a good motivator to be moderate you with alchohol or stay AF?:D

I knew an alcoholic that had gout. It's supposed to be very painful!

I had a GP appointment today and she asked me how my drinking was and I told her that yesterday was my 101st AF day this year. It felt very good to think about what I have achieved.:j

I think this forum has been so helpful to me because there are people on all different stages so we are not competing with each other and we are just all trying to make our lives better.:A

I'm going to start singing in a minute. Lol, I'm just very happy today.:rotfl:
