It was my husbands funeral on friday, loads of friends & family, all shocked & sad.
Many feeling guilty & going round & round in circles like i have wondering, what could we have done? when did it start? why did it start? why didnt he talk to them about it? His mum feels guilty cos she gave him money, his sibling cos she's a doctor & should've noticed, his mates cos they all drank together.... so many victims.
At 40, he was the first of his friends to die, so school & college friends came from all over, including Australia, Bali & Canada, what a shame he wasnt here to see them.
Many apologised to me for not taking me seriously when i'd asked for help, its nobodys fault, he told them i was just nagging & exaggerating & he had become an excellent liar.
My 2 little boys (age 2 & 4) were adorable, they placed some red roses on the coffin & asked lots of strange questions, where is daddy? Has he got a pillow? How did he get up there?
It shouldnt have happened, its such a waste. I want to shout it from the rooftops ! WHAT A WASTE !
I feel so angry, so sad, i can't quite believe it then i think of him laughing with the kids & its gut wrenching.
Good Luck to all of you, you've done the hardest bit acknowledging a problem. even the week before he went into hospital, he wouldnt admit it.

Thanks for that.
If there is a post on this forum that encapsulates the dangers of alcoholism and likely progression of this illness, this is it.
Alcoholism is an illness that has to be beaten by the individual concerned. While friends and family can help, the desire to stop drinking has to come from within.
There is no-one to blame. There should be no guilt amongst friends and family. He poured the alcohol down his own throat, and his alcoholism told him he did not have a illness.
This is the tragedy of it - it makes one deceive, lie, and kid themselves.
Alcoholism untreated gets worse, rarely better.0 -
I'm so glad I read this thread. I'm giving up the sauce as well. I can see the danger signs looming, and I don't want to be in a position where booze dictates how I live my life. So while I still have the upper hand, I'm giving it the shove.
Yes, I'll miss it. I drank very heavily in my youth, but then so did everyone I associated with: I largely gave up when I settled down, but over the past couple of years it's been sneaking up again, to the point where yesterday I bought two bottles of wine for Sunday lunch rather than one, because that wouldn't be enough (despite only three people in the house being wine drinkers, and the other two usually stop after one glass or two at the most.) I drank the other bottle myself, in the kitchen whilst preparing lunch and then whilst washing up.
By 7.30 I was sorely tempted to nip over the offy for more supplies - I resisted temptation, but it took several minutes of dithering to make that decision. That's scary. This morning I have a thick head, indigestion and a sense of shame.
Time to give up, now. Sod tomorrow, today = no booze.Proud to be dealing with my debtsDMP Mutual Support Thread member 337

Hi Maman
Though on the down side - not much sleep last night . Scarily my body and brain must be try to tell me something . I do feel much much brighter this morning though.
When I don't have any alcohol I don't sleep well for the first few days, as most of you have experienced. Last night I only had 3 units ..... and didn't sleep very well ..... which must mean my body didn't think I had any :eek:.....if you see what I mean. So now I'm so used to having a larger amount of alcohol every night having a 'little' sends my body round the twist .:o
Re the weather - Jo - you certainly know which week to pick, hope you find a 'quiet' beach..... I would let you into the local secrets, but I may then have to kill you. :rotfl:
Have a great day everyone
