Hi all- thank you so much for your kind thoughts when I was having a touch of the self indulgent self pity the other day- specially Fay, thanks for the PM, its so nice to know that there are people out there that have some empathy with drinkers, so many people haven't got any time for us at all.

Caz and Jo- think you are doing amazingly at the moment, its a brave new world out there when the mist clears but its worth it, honest.

BHB- funeral sounds like your FIL would have loved it, hopefully things will settle down for a while and you can all come to terms with your loss gradually.

Debtmonkey- hope OH is OK today. I spent a long time living with a person who had schizophrenia and every now and then he'd have to go to hospital (even prison once, but thats another story!!) but I loved him and I knew when he had his 'episodes' it was the illness, and that with the right treatment and rest my wonderful, funny, loving, caring partner would come back. It is very stressful for you though, I used to be watching for signs the whole time- but it was worth it, I still think he was the love of my life and I wouldn't change the time we had together or the children we had for anything. Hugs to you, you sound like the sort of parther your OH needs.

BB- hope you are OK, have missed you lately, let us know which treatments/therapies are helping, I'm up for giving anything a go (thats probably what got me into this mess in the first place!?)

Hello to newbies, and a big thanks to GC and Bis, who ALWAYS say the right thing and make me take stock and get this stuff into perspective. Massive hugs to everyone struggling and/or indulging tonight.

I am craving a glass of wine right now! I'm not having any though as I don't have any money in my purse to buy it anyway. I will try to distract myself so it doesn't keep crossing my mind.

Where are those damn kudzu tablets?:D:p

  • Me too, 115k. Have wiped make-up off though and put slippers on, so I'm not going anywhere!

Tonight's treat is a huge slice of carrot cake to have with coffee after tea (supermarket fish n chips, not as good as the real thing but ok if smothered with mayo!).

BHB right with you for the island - what if we do a richard hammond and make Darwin into a Dampervan and sail him over???? 80+ islands here many of them deserted :)

:rotfl::rotfl: - I saw that one - not my idea of fun. Would prefer something a little more sea worthy. Also wouldn't want poor Darwin to get salt in its hinges :D

    Something a little more ... er .. Stable ? perhaps? :D

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.

This is one book I have been meaning to read. Marian Keyes has suffered from alcoholism herself so I think this book will be very true to life IYSWIM.

I would recommend it definitely. It is a long novel, with lots of characters (all well developed personalities though). It took me a while to get used to the weird contracted narrative of one of the characters, but really glad I persevered.

Marnie's battle with alcohol is especially poignant and I was shocked by how much I could relate to it. It opened some very big questions for myself that I had been avoiding (head-in-sand), but the great thing is it made me realise that it can all be fixed with some willpower and determination :T
  • Evenin' all! :p (Gosh, I sound like the alcohol police, ha ha!)

Well I've not bought any booze today and we made a trip to Sainsbugs today for some shopping.

Quite incredible, as Sunday shopping always used to include beer and vodka, regardless of whether I was up front with my OH or whether it was "smuggled in" if I popped to the shops on my own.

Today marks my 7th AFD :T :T :T I did really really want a large vodka or 5 earlier, but I worked through it in the kitchen so I made some Zaalouk and marinaded (marinated???) some salmon for our dinner instead. And it was delish, so I was pleased with that.

115k and Glasgowgirl, congratulations on resisting a drink today, that's fantastic!! :A

And congrats to everyone else who has remained sober - it's a great achievement. One day at a time, one day at a time.........

I've drunk over a litre of full fat coke today to beat the cravings, but it was my treat at Sainsbugs instead of buying booze - if I drank it every day I'd have no teeth left!

I am getting tired already, so an early night for me, before another hard week at work begins again (boooooooooo hissssss!)

Happy dreams to everyone and hope you've had a good Sunday.

    Hugs and love,
    Caz

Scarily......... Coke is also my weapon of choice! I think I need to calm down on that as well, and I was warned about it when I first posted on here. But of course I ignore warnings until its too late!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, next task is to replace the coke that replaced the alcohol with something else.

Which exactly the opposite of what Allen Carr says. you should do. NO SUBSTITUTES TO ALCOHOL.......ho hum.

i'm off to bed before I confuse myself completely.
