Look guys I'm not a plant. I'm as keen as you lot to get to the bottom of all of this. Whether or not they are scamming us they have still messed us about and left us high and dry. All I'm saying is that it doesn't make any sense. The £100 that people paid wouldn't cover the man hours of a surveyor to value each house so they are already out of pocket, they have refunded a lot if not all of the fees paid by Credit Card. I am not defending this lot one bit I am as angry as anyone about it. I am going to find out today from the surveyors they used at our house whether or not they got paid. If I can find out from Regus whether they settled up there too that would be useful.

You still about davcar? Any comments?

You gotta admit it sounds remarkably like a bunch of con artists to me, yet everything was fine for you? Especially as you seem to think they did real surveys, yet others didn't get one? Although I dunno what sort of buyer offers to purchase without seeing or getting a surveyor!

Have you posted anywhere other than to defend these people?
  • The surveyor who came to me was a James Wright, with a FD card, I am searching for it now for details...
  • As soon as I noticed that the money was taken out of my account I had not realised that FDI had done it because I had told them way back on the 13th August I did not want anything to do with them and I had emailed all the paperwork they sent me to my lawyer who basically advised me that this was not the proper way to conduct business and I should tell them so and this is exactly what I did. However on the 23 September I noticed a transaction which I could not place and I immediately called RBS and told them that the transaction was fraudulent, my card was stopped. I kept thinking and then it struck me out of the blue what had happened so I called the fraud department and told them about the initial survey I agreed to which FDI overcharged me on and I called FDI and let them know that the website said £99 and it did not mention vat so they immediately refunded my vat. I explained these facts to the fraud department all they said was it is a dispute I need to take it up withthe company as I had compromised my card. I am out of the country which makes it a bt difficult but I will fight it. I am sure my conveyancer will provide supporting evidence. I will also request a chargeback based on these arguments. I am just so angry. Surly the banks investigations will show that the said company are a bunch of impostors and scammers who used legitimate means to scam and I feel the bank that provided the equipment to carry out this fraud should be made accountable, as I am sure companies who are given these terminals must have valid checks done on them similar to credit checks.

As a group perhaps we should also bring these fraudulent dealings to the attention of the government who seem to be failing us all the time by allowing scammers to register on companies house to give them legitimacy within the UK.

We need to band together and fight.

  • Hi All

New to this forum, but just thought that some of you who don't know, may like to know that First Direct Investments are now in liquidation, closed or just plain done a runner !!!!

And with them have taken about £900 off a friend of mine without permission, they took the usual £99 and since then have somehow managed to take another £800 from there bank, they are looking into this at the moment, with a view to getting the police involved.

    Thanks
  • I am in jamaica, and like other people who have been scammed i paid £228.28, as they said i had to pay this for valuation fee, i have contacted my bank, so i really appreciate your advice on the credit card act, the bank said they will investigate and refund my money back within 28 days, there is no way they are getting away with my hard earned cash, what goes around comes around, they will get caught eventually
  • Sickening, i am in Jamaica they scam me out of £228.28 but thank god, it was by my card and the bank will be paying me back, this should not be allowed, company hse really need to put regulations on these companies!
  • hi guys.

yeah, i've been scammed as well. feel so foolish! these guys have to be caught.

i've contacted the police - metropolitan police - tel 0300 123 1212 - they've been brill. took all the details and seems Westminster are the area investigating it.

next stop is contacting the bank for refund. we'll see how that goes.

i got a refund from FDI 26/9/09 but they took it back on Saturday. Cons!

    xx
  • Interesting. Did anyone else see this, a refund and the money taken back afterwards?
