So it seems I to have been had! Got an email offering me a credit card with no credit check, clicked link, filled in details, then wondered why they wanted my debit card details including security code. After reading the T&C's I immediately closed browser tab, when a dialogue box appeared which read; Do you want a Visa credit card blah blah blah? You had to click on it and took you to Vanquis, which then I left, as I already with Vanquis. Today I find I am £39.95 down, searched email for e-credit plus and would you know it there in my spam folder is an email from them dated the 12th March. Point of law; If you do not authorise an action then it is illegal if it is actioned. As such have contacted my banks fraud team...
  • After the discovery of 39.95 missing I talked to my bank, found out who and then went hunting.
Talking to e-credit plus it appears that when you apply for one product on the internet it qualifies you for three memberships (one of which is there one).
I explained that I didn't accept any membership and could she send me a copy of my agreement?
No! Was the reply we only have an IP address which agreed to the T&C's.
So it was me that agreed?
    We only have an IP........
So you don't know if it was me?
    We only have......
Why didn't you tell me you were going to take money from my a/c?
We sent you an e-mail on 10/8.
My delete folder goes back to 7/4 and there is nothing from you!
    We sent it to....
    (Not my e-mail!)
I want to cancel everything with you and get a refund.
Send the pack back (which I don't have) and we will refund you 32.95 having taken a £7 admin fee.
    Not good enough!
Or we can refund 20 today and waive your monthly fee of £4.95.

I accepted that and I await the credit.
Then I played my trump card. I called the bank back and spoke to the same person. I explained again that I didn't know of or want anything to do with this company.
My card has been cancelled, and a new one on it's way. E-credit plus has been marked as fraudulent to my account and no more payments will be honoured. Tomorrow £39.95 will be credited to my account!

So! I'm £13 up and when the pack comes I'll send it back to cancel and keep copies of everything should the need arise.

We were victims of these jokers near 2 years ago. While there was no obvious reason that made sence behind it in our case and the cc company insisting we were responsable as they cant have got the details elsewere etc. Well after standing our ground and insisting our innocence to having any part in it to there fraud department they had to open an investigation. It took time and many calls of chasing them up but over 2 months later they eventually paid up.

When asked about what the investigation shown they refused to say what happened and how it happened citing security reasons etc. But they also admited we were not at any fault that they could tell of. Basically they know how these jokers often get the details yet refuse to say but pay the money back when asked to investigate the fraud.

What they are doing is completely legal. The terms and conditions are very clearly laid out and there are a number of links on the home page (where you sign up) diverting you to the terms.

Also, there's a little section just under the Apply button stating "by clicking this button, you agree to the terms and conditions" or something of the sort. You can't agree to the terms then later disagree when you discover you were charged because you didn't spend the time to read them.

It's unfortunate that you are unhappy because you were charged for a legitimate service which you willingly and openly signed up for. I sincerely hope you'll take extra caution in future when signing up to websites and handing out your card details.

its a scam all they are doing is luring people in a time of need thinking they are receiving a credit card into paying a membership to buy over priced products - however clear the terms and conditions are at all points during the sign up you are made to believe that its for a credit card - so yes they are legally covering there !!!! but that doesn't make it legit! you tell me one person in this entire world who is struggling with debt that wants to sign up to an expensive online website and on top of that pay a membership fee!

All those people who pay £70 in the hope of getting a loan, for a start.
