Why didn't you read the small print before applying?

  • Do not do it! i'm trying to become a little more reponsible with money, but I did fall for this thinking I was getting a credit building credit card, instead when I saw they were charging £99.95 for a silly store card I left the site. They took the money anyway, and it was half an hour on hold, plus half an hour while they haggled with the price and removing membership fees and monthly fees for 1 year, not to mention "this goes on your credit report in a positive light" chat, I managed to get them to cancel it, but I will only recieve £85 back and I have to send the membership pack back first. I was stupid, don't do the same, you have to pay half of the overpriced products up front, plus ridiculous amounts for postage - it is not worth it whatsoever!

Have to agree Elky. I don't want to sound sanctimonious but just one quick glance over the terms & conditions would be enough to set alarm bells ringing for most people.

All of the things that people are complaining about on this thread with the extortionate fees & charges are all things that are clearly laid out in the terms of membership there, BEFORE you even agree to anything. It's not like it's hidden -

Right i'm getting a little panicky now! I also thought it was a credit building card, went to the website and typed in my details. Got onto the next page where it tells you the charges etc, so i clicked on terms and conditions....read through them, realised that it was infact a scam, and was for a catologue type shop, so left right away and googled them, being brought to here! I did enter my visadebit details, thinking it was a creditbuilding card, which then takes you to the next page. After realising what it was i did not click on acept t&c, nor did i click on confirm. Im worried they might still try and take money out of my account though, after reading what i have now. Sorry i'm babbling i know but a little bit worried. I've even withdrawn everything from my account and put it into other halfs just incase, even if they do apply for the money now it shouldnt go through as i have a debit card and the money has to be in my account, but im concerned that it will go through as a gauranteed payment and not only put me into an overdraft facility i dont have, but add on charges for said overdraft, and a payment refusal which will be another 70quid.....i dont know what i should do? Should i be worried even though i didnt click on confirm? Should i go down the route of canceling my card(even though that didnt seem to stop them taking money in another posters case) or should i stop being such a ditz as i didnt hit confirm?!!!!! xxxx

Unfortunately I also fell for this scam, to all you sanctamonious people saying read the small print, there was no small print, until they send you the agreement and card you don't know what this scam actually is.
I tried writing to cancel, tried phoning but couldn't get through my emails were returned as undeliverable.
My bank have refunded me the 2 sums of £4.95 "momthly fee"they took from my account but I hold out little hope of getting the initial payment back.

How can these people get away with doing this?

What they are doing is completely legal. The terms and conditions are very clearly laid out and there are a number of links on the home page (where you sign up) diverting you to the terms.

Also, there's a little section just under the Apply button stating "by clicking this button, you agree to the terms and conditions" or something of the sort. You can't agree to the terms then later disagree when you discover you were charged because you didn't spend the time to read them.

It's unfortunate that you are unhappy because you were charged for a legitimate service which you willingly and openly signed up for. I sincerely hope you'll take extra caution in future when signing up to websites and handing out your card details.

I like how they all call it a scam. I thought a scam was when it pretended to be something it wasn't? It always told you EXACTLY what it is about on the site, but then i only know that cos i bothered to read it.

Some people are blind sighted at the words "No credit checks!". All common sense gets thrown out the window and they sign up like there's no tomorrow.

It's frustratingly funny at the amount of people who complain about this company. It's NEVER the individuals fault.. oh no, it is the big bad evil company who obtained permission to debit the fees who is at fault.

Yes it is a scam depending on who if apparently "signed" up with them or for something else like a web site posing as 1 thing when it's something else.

We apparently "signed" up with them and there was some suggestion in the thread on the matter I started that the gf must have done so by mistake and tried to deny it to me.

If it were not a scam how come after reporting it as fraud did we end up get every penny back?. And how come did we never receive requests off this company for the monthly fee?.

If there company and methods are above board and legal they would have provided evidence to the cc company to backup when and how we "signed" up and we would have had no money refunded.

Prehaps our case was different I don't know. But even if people sign up for 1 thing and it turns out to be something else it's fraud and illigal.

Look up the definition of the word 'Scam'. Just because you got your money refunded does not make it a scam. It is completely transparant in what it offers & the overwelming majority of people who come here complaining about it just didn't bother reading the Terms & Conditions they were agreeing to.

You also need to look up the word 'illegal' in this case. What they are doing is completely lawful.

But you and others are making the most obvious of mistakes in assuming everyone being a victim of this company must have visited there website and must have gone via the often posted link to there site citing the tos?. Why have you and others auto assumed this?. Just because they have become a victim of e-credit plus does not mean they are so via there own site or having ever been linked to there own tos.

To suggest that makes you sound very much like a credit card employee who deals with these things prehaps?

And yes I know the meaning of words unlike you may well do in some cases as the last time I checked up on law and meaning of words obtaining money by deception is fraud and illegal. And even when some may claim the e-credit plus terms must have been linked to at some point cant verify this but still auto assume it to be the case

And please tell me whenever a credit card company ever refunds money where it was obtained by legal means where customers simply cry foul?. As no credit card company under circumstances as you suggest would ever likely ever refund such sums of money.

Again I feel I must state our case may have been different. But if this company had nothing to hide and done nothing illegal then we would not have had our money refunded as they would have provieded evidence to the cc company to satisfy there enquires would they not?
