Re the summary posts. I don't think this would work unless the summary post is placed at the beginning of the thread with an indication of where in the thread it was posted. I mean, would you scour 20 pages just to find the latest summary post? Some of us would, but I think it's unreasonable to EXPECT users to do so.
Also, I imagine Martin means that any user can make one of these posts when deemed necessary?Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

Sorry that's what I meant i've changed my clarification to
Then they PM the board guides of that board and say they've done a summary - the board guide can then cut and paste it into the first post in the thread and then add the following above it (and below the OPs post) - we'll add formating though, but words something like this.Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

i can't be bothered to read any of this.
i think people have to accept that some people are nasty, and stop being a cry baby if someone offends them with their views. This doesn't mean the boards should tolerate racism - but if people think dole scroungers should get a job or are generally scum so be it. The same is true if a poster thinks someone in debt is stupid. I was in debt - because i generally spent more than I had coming in. I turned it around and now have savings - doesn't mean i wasn't an idiot in the first place. Advice doesn't always mean saying how great a person is for dealing with debts and being non-judgemental. sometimes it is right to judge.
at the end of the day, this is simply a board and should not be taken too seriously.
if people are offended - don't read the post or reply to it. the nature of debate means people have to have different views.0 -
what a lot of fuss over things that are really not important at all !0

I'm sure that if Martin ever gets sued, the defence "I didn't think anyone would take it too seriously, m'lud" will do just fine...Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Wow, White Horse what a view to have. There are nice ways to say things that don't have to offend anyone. Just takes a minute longer to phrase it.
I like the proposed changes and hope for MSE peace and harmony.Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
I would like to be lucky,healthy & happy in 2020! :T0 -
My view is that if post counts in DT & MSA are removed then new posters will be reluctant to venture into these areas as they may get accused of being an AE.
Also how do you spot the AE who turn up in the arms as 0 posts constantly. At present you can spot the AE back to make trouble from their post count and join date as they tend to accumulate a high number of posts in a very short period of time and they are all intent on causing mischief. The abuse button is there to press to get them removed and many people use this facility.
I have learnt more useful moneysaving things in DT & Arms than many other boards as the discussions are often money based but don't fit into one of the other threads titles so end up in DT or MSA.
Some of the threads on the main boards are positively nasty to anyone who doesn't post there regularly. Regular posts to these threads seem to think because they are always posting there that their advice is right and anyone posting conflicting or correct advice will be met with a "with all due respect........." reply from them.
Then you have the Vent board. A place where people can rant and rave but some people seem to have not got the idea of the thread (there is a clue in the title) and slate a poster for venting.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

You don't know what I or anyone else might find offensive. I do not have the right not to be offended.
All we can reasonably ask is that others do not make gratuitously insulting or abusive remarks.
If views that might be regarded as offensive are suppressed, the Arms will end up serving only keg beer. However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Just gifts0 -
The key to the debate about benefit scroungers or serves them right being in debt is where its posted.
Someone replying to a request for MoneySaving help or info in the DFW boards with the above comments , is going against the rules, etiquetter and ethos of this forum. Someone discussing that perspective in the discussion time board is acceptable within limits of decency and not being personally abusive to any individuals.Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

Makes sense, but you have to remember that some people log on and off quickly and don't even know half the boards exist. I have never been to the arms. i just see a post, wherever it is, and reply to it.
Just because someone is asking for help, doesn't mean they can't be called an idiot.0
