  • I would say plan it all out very carefully and allow rest days in between. I know this sounds like it could take some of the fun out of the holiday but without planning you'll end up trying to cram way too much into your last few days and feel knackered.

When I went to Orlando I printed out a few pages with the date on them. Then we went through the guide books and web to find what we wanted to do and how long it would take to do them.
Then wrote something in each day and and planned out the whole two weeks. We left a couple of free days so we could decided to do stuff when we got there.

But I would def make a list of what you want to do, so you dont miss it.

    Wilf55:

I would def hit universal and Island of adventure.
    Seaworld
Aquatica is a nice water park I really enjoyed it.
Busch gardens is good but it takes a while to get there.

There are a numbr of good malls to look at for shopping. Did not see that on your list of things to do.

That's a long way to go LOL
  • Can anyone help me to understand travel insurance for Orlando.

I have booked Aer Lingus from Dublin to Amsterdam then through to Orlando on Martinair. I know its madness with 3 kids but it was the only way we could afford it.

The booking was made in an ABTA Travel Agent with ABTA registered American Holidays who booked flights, hotel and seaworld tickets, paid by debit card, am I covered by ABTA if the airline goes bust?

If not I looked at protectmyholiday (Martins advice) who I think are offering to cover Hotel, Flights and Attraction tickets if the airline goes bust for £25.00 I could then get normal US travel insurance does this sound correct?

My brother also recommended that I should get insurance to cover possible excess charges on the hire car if anything happens to it, do I need this or do most people just have CDW?

Sorry for so many questions but insurance is something I can't afford to get wrong - Any help much appreciated.

I think you need to check and make sure you travel agent is ATOL registered as thats the one that gets you home if the airline goes bust. I trust its the same for Ireland.

As for insurance I think you need to get normal holiday insurance that covers any possible medical bills and all the normal holiday stuff.

Are you planning on renting a car?
    If so from who?
You will need to go through the T&C to see what insurance you get with the car.

The normal thing the hire companys try to do is add on stuff when you collect the car so be very careful and check the rental agreement before signing.

How come going on holiday always seems so simple until you get down the the "little" things :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I would always take out the full insurance in the US to make sure you are covered if anything should go wrong. Insurance is the one thing you really don't want to get wrong.

We are in Northern Ireland so UK rules cover us, but there are no flights from Belfast now that flyglobespan has gone under (thankfully we hadn't booked yet).

Just checked the Travel Agents receipt which says "This receipt relates only to non ATOL services" - panic, I'm not covered if the airline goes down I thought thats what ABTA meant.

The Americanholidays website does say "We are licensed and bonded as Tour Operators with the Commission for Aviation Regulation in Ireland License no. T 029. Any money paid against your holiday is protected under this bond. A copy of our license can be viewed". Is this cover for the airline going under?

We booked the flights, car inclusive of CDW insurance, Hotel and Seaworld tickets so I need all these insured plus Disney and Universal tickets once we order them.

I think I need to go into an insurance place, talk to a real live person and pay over the odds rather than taking the chance of buying correctly online. The price for this holiday just seems to go up and up and still have to pay for 3 passports for the kids! It seemed like such a good idea at the time!.

Thanks so much for the help, this is really messing with my head.
