Does anyone else have experience of taking toddlers to Disney World? We are planning to go there for our honeymoon next June (well familymoon!!) and our son and daughter will be almost 5 and almost 3.

Actually I suppose that's only one toddler really, I need to get used to the idea of my children growing up!!

Will there be plenty for them to do? Many thanks for any replies.
    :)

sorry if this is a vague question but approx 12 years ago we went to Disney and purchased tickets that apparently never expire ? we left 1 day on them, would anybody know what these tickets are be called and how I can top them up ? they are up in the loft somewhere so to save me hunting them out thought I would ask you guys ?

Did the ticket look like an old bus clippercard with your photo stuck onto the top of it? When we went in the 90's the tickets were like this. I think you can take the ticket along to Guest Relations at WDW and have the unexpired day transferred onto a new type ticket. You may be better posting this question over on The Dibb though as they may have better knowledge than me.

  • i've started planning a trip for oct 2012 and i'm getting really confused
been advised to look at travel city direct for the operator and want to fly from either manchester or glasgow
for a first time visitor i'm tempted by one of the disney resorts to keep things easy and stress free, but a friend has recommended international drive
been looking online for about 6 hours now and am not very much further forward - very much appreciate some holiday advice and money saving tips
    thanks

Hi bf. How is your holiday party made up? If you are a family with young children I'd say it's more convenient to either stay at Disney or stay in nearby Kissimee or Lake Buena Vista (I think LBV is actually closer). We used to stay on International Drive when were a couple and stayed there with our daughter Emma when she was 2. Since then we have returned when she was 4 and 10. When she was 4 we stayed at LBV and when she was 10 we did a twin break with a week at Disney (Contemporary) and a week at LBV (always staying at Cypress Pointe). We found staying a Disney great for the perks ie free car parking (not sure this is still the case as I've been researching for our trip in October and Disney have started charging for things that used to be free so check this) and the extra magic hours. However we did feel a bit hemmed in and were glad that we stayed at two different places. Was the consideration of not hiring a car one of the reasons you would have preferred Disney? We have friends who never hire a car and always stay on I Drive and find it very easy to get around but again it depends whether you want to spend all day in the theme parks or take a break during the day. Sorry, if this has given you more to consider!

thanks so much for your advice VALM
it'll be 1 adult and a 5 year old, or 3 adults and a 5 yr old. if the grandparents come then a car makes sense, if just me and my son then i probably wouldn't want a car
i do like your idea of a week at disney and a week somewhere else because i would want to go to univeral and do some other things, think 2 weeks of disney might be a bit much (for me!)
i think i need to find a map so i can visualise where all these places are - thank you again

Trying to work out the costs
    Hi all,

I'm trying to work out the cost of going back to Orlando for next year, due to my job situation, we can only go in August.
Has anyone found a site that had flights for sale or at least the prices of them?

    Kind regards

    Hannah

This is a good idea. Also, if you don't know if you will hire a car have a look at which hotels offer free shuttles to the theme parks. Will make things easier for you and your son.

My husband would have gone stir crazy staying at Disney for two weeks too!

I am sure if you look through the ten million pages of Orlando advice this is bound to be mentioned a good few times...

When going as a party of three or four (2 Adults 2 Kids) we have always without exception found it much cheaper to book the flights and accomodation separately as you are inevitably being screwed by the travel companies when booking accomodation with them. You also get the option of staying in hotels that are not normally part of the travel operators packages. We personally like the LaQuinta on Jamaica Court as it is right on IDrive but in a square jsut off it which keeps noise to a minimum.

This year as the two kids are now at an age where they and indeed the two adults need a little privacy we have gone for a Villa instead and have again booked seaparately from the travel agents. We are just back in April and had a villa with pool for £600 and we are going back in July for 2 weeks and have managed to get another villa with pool for £750 again much cheaper than going through the operators.

Florida is not a cheap holiday but with a bit of research and a bit of time hunting around the net it is possible to still get a good deal.

    Hi folks,

Sorry if this question is old hat, but looking to fly to Florida Sanford on (charter) Standby tickets next year, has anyone ever been and noticed the flight was quiet, and if so what month of the year was it please? It is very difficult for me to check the loads for the flights, and so any observational info would be brilliant!

PLease feel free to PM if you wish!
