Im also confused, as all your posts that I have seen so far are about ESA (Employment and support allowance) and I cant find a single post on the forum about the space agency from yourself?

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

Im confused as your username is ESA (fair enough you asked for a change now) and you stated you *joined* ESA due to stories about people on the sick etc.

Which ESA did you join due to people on the sick? Was it ESA (Employment and Support Allowance) or ESA (European Space Agency)?
If your still confused then I cannot enlighten you any further.

Why would I post about the European Space Agency on a benefits board?:rotfl:

So, you have a deep interest in the european space agency, chose that as your username, and yet you have not posted ANYTHING about the european space agency until this sudden attempt to distance your posts from being related to ESA (employment and support allowance) officially?

The evidence on the forum points indicates you post about employment and support allowance, and have no interest in the european space agency, as you have to my knowledge not mentioned it until today.

I could be wrong, please feel free to point me to your previous discussions about the space agency....

Why would you post on a benefit board? Why would you use ESA as a username for the space agency, on a benefit board when a benefit is called ESA and you work for the benefits people? At best its *highly* misleading...

I repeat, why would I post about the European Space Agency on a benefits board? Unless asked about my username, which arose for the first time today, there was no reason to talk about it.

If someone asks about missing a signing-on appointment I dont see what relevance Space Exploration has to that. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

I post about JSA - My username isnt JSA.

I post about IS - My username isnt IS.

As some people are unable to work out that I am an individual and not an organisation I have asked for my username to be changed. That's my concession.

fair enough about the user name change, but your still conveniently forgetting to answer the question of why you stated quite clearly you JOINED ESA due to stories about people on the sick.. I repeat what ESA where you referring to, and what does the space agency have to do with sick benefits?

Stating you joined ESA due to people on the sick DOES NOT GIVE THE IMPRESSION YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE SPACE AGENCY ..

Maybe cecause you just stated your user name has nothing to do with the ESA benefits, but the SPACE AGENCY when asked about the relationship between your posts and your work....

(even though its never been to my knowledge mentioned or clarified before, and your posts indicated working for the benefits people, so with a username like ESA people are bound to think your working for ESA and your posts could represent official policy in some way)

How did you not think that ESA as a username would be construed as anything other than employment and support allowance in a benefits forum, when the posts are about employment and support allowance? In what way could anyone not think that could lead to a significant risk of misleading people?

There are more forums to this place than the Benefits and Tax Credits forum. I made my initial posts, if I remember correctly, in the Bank Accounts section because someone close to me had money stolen from their account and needed advice on how to get it back.

I didnt believe that my passion for space exploration would cause problems when seeking out such advice.

Only after that did I reach this area of the board. I'm not a mind reader, how was I to know people would make such assumptions, especially when I have repeatedly stated that I am here in a personal capacity.

It hopefully wont be a problem much longer as I have requested a name change so the easily confused wont have this problem.

By the way, under any job you can face disciplinary action if you bring your office into disrepute, it has no bearing if it's an opinion or in personal time. You only have to see the recent case of Mark France the DWP worker called up disciplinary hearing over a campaign he did in his own time that didn't even have a bearing on his benefits work it was about MPs expenses. I believe the DWP have dropped it now, but that's only because of media attention. The DWP used 'employees should not comment on matters of controversy which fall within ministers’ responsibility' The new changes to sickness benefits are much more likely to cause difficulties as they have a direct link to a DWP employees job and there is as much political controversy about them at the moment. CAB, MIND, Rethink all calling on judicial review regarding some controversial aspects of the medicals. Ministers are having to address these issues in parliament. Whether ESA/NASA falls into having done this is the job of his department to decide, but to consider you have no restrictions on personal opinion, especially when it is directly related to the role of your government job is being optimistic to say the least.
