We can't really afford IVF, but I'd rather do it when I was younger (I'm just shy of 35) to get the best chance of success
If you are under 35, you may get a reduced fee IVF with egg sharing?
  • Thanks Tabitha. No idea what Im on then! Suppose I will find out when they arrive. If the invoice ever arrives (never thought Id be rushing to pay out £600)

  • Has anyone done egg sharing - how did you feel about it? They do reduce the cost quite significantly at our local place, but I don't think I could do it...Might be irrational (ttc tends to lend itself to that!) but I don't think I could cope with someone else having 'my' baby if we weren't successful and they were - does that make sense? I don't know if you find out at the time, but can't imagine living a child-less life to have someone knock on my door in 18 years time to tell them I was their biological mother... If we were successful and had frozen ones 'left over' I would happily donate them for 'adoption' but I don't think that would count for the discount.

It makes sense. It's a personal thing.
I'm older than 35 so there's no chance, but I'd be happy for my eggs to be used however they wish, scientific research or a baby for someone else.

Thanks Ginvzt, not sure now what he said about the quality of my eggs. Was positive he mentioned the quality but then again it was all a bit of a blur after he mentioned the quantity and the word menopause :(

Just looked at the drugs invoice and there are 30 amps (75IU) of Menopur. Does that mean I'll be on 1 a day? Sorry, not very clued up on this

Hope your 2ww is going as well as it can, and quickly xx

You are welcome. Don't raed too much in the '30 amps'. This time I had 60 amps delivered (6 boxes - 10 in each). You only take them for 10-14 days, I believe, but could go on longer if you need more stimulation. I have been stimulating for 12 days this time, so after my appointment on day 10 I was given another prescription for extra required and just picked them at the hospital pharmacy. I was lucky in that I have IVF funding for this cycle still, so only had t pay NHS prescription charges once, not for the top-up.

If this is your first IVF, it could be you are starting with 3, but the best really is just wait and see what arrives.

The 2ww is going well. We are in France, sitting on the terrace of our hotel room and looking out to the sea. Ok, we had a bit of an argument on Sunday of what we want to do on holiday (we only decided to go to France on Saturday evening and booked the flights at about 9pm), but I keep telling OH that he needs to behave and take care of me and the babies. And the comment of 'babes like this' or 'babies don't like this' :o

Back in UK on Sunday, then a week at work, but only doing 20 hours as have so much time in lieu accrued!

    Hi everyone

sorry I've been quiet lately; lots to think about! We've decided that we aren't going to do IVF after all - we can't afford it, and although MIL has offered to pay (in an abstract way, she doesn't know that we were actually considering it), neither DH or I want that. She'd end up 'owning' the entire process.. So it looks like we're done. I know that theoretically we could still conceive naturally, but it's not likely. Our daughter is an absolute joy, and I'm so grateful that we have her. Obsessing about having a sibling for her does none of us any good, and in a way it's a relief to draw a line under the possibility of IVF. I was never totally convinced that IVF was for me, but didn't want to discount it until the option had at least been explored. What next? I have no idea.. we've been ttc for so long I'm not sure what happens now. I'm vaguely thinking about fostering.. although the selection process sounds scary.

I'm so full of admiration for you ladies who cope through so much..and wish with all of my heart that you might get to hold your own babies very soon.

Onstep - wish you luck and hope you do get to conceive naturally, all the best.

Gin - enjoy your relaxing time in France and look after those babies, fingers crossed!

Someone mentioned the effects if the IVF drugs (sorry can't rrecall who it was now). I am one of the lucky ones I have no side effects really of the drugs and I am on the max Menpour due to low egg collection first 2 goes.

  • I hope we both get a miracle onestep - but sometimes you just have to know when to give up.

I'm close to that point too, I'm going to give the injections another go (after this month fails, nothing like thinking positively!) but I have no real appetite for it. And I could use that cash(£800 pm) for a nice winter holiday..!

I've been really sloppy with the gonal F injections this month - stomach looks like a war zone! Prob do the Ovitrelle this weekend.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do...let us know if a miracle does find you!
  • Hi all,

I have my pregnancy blood test at my clinic tomorrow morning. Part of me doesn't want to go- 'ignorance is bliss' and all that, and part of me just wants it done so we can move on. I really don't know why I got my hopes up so much in the beginning.

I suppose I could be wrong, I haven't had a bleed or anything but I think sometimes you just know.

Meanwhile the christening invite has come in for hubby's best friends' baby christening. His gf was pregnant after approx 5 mins of them getting together and I harbour strong feelings of dislike towards her!

gin- hope your 2ww is passing quickly, I know you'll be due your test shortly after me xx
