    QQ - AF knows, and is just messing you about!

    +++++++

    SK - good to hear from you. It might just be the tubes that's been holding you back - I'm convinced my tubes are gummed up but I could be barking up the wrong tree. £500 and we'll find out (turns out you have to pay for the initial consultation AND the test...but I did expect to start haemorraging (sp?!) cash once we were dealing with a clinic as private patients. SK - when did you start TTC - must have been similar to me, I've lost track of the months, but we started Sept09. TTC#1 took 3 and a half years. It is depressing. Once you start a treatment course, things will get moving hopefully.

    ++++++

    I've lost a couple of pounds this week (and not just the ones that went into MFS's bank account!)- I only need to lose 4 pounds in next 16 days to be the weight I claimed to be on the clinic's pre-consultation paperwork!

    Have a good day everyone!

    My HSG cost slightly over £100:cool: Consultation cost £35, internal ultrasound £35, IUI cost something like £500. IVF will cost about £7500:eek: (All Singapore, where DH started working from Jan 2010, one month after we re-TTC after mc).

    I agree that the way tod has worded his post is insensitive and hesitate to stick my head over the parapet, but my own experience bears out what he said to an extent.

    We've had on total 8 years of unsuccessfully tic and various fertility interventions, and our problems included PCOS, fibroids and male issues. I've never fallen pregnant despite lots of intervention when my BMI has been over 25 (PCOS makes it easy to gain weight and hard to lose it) and switching to a very healthy diet and cutting out alcohol completely did seem to help last time round with managing the fibroids and male issues. Neither of us have ever smoked.

    I am by no means saying it is the absolute answer, or that it can overcome problems like blocked tubes, but my own experience does back up all the research which says that body weight does have a huge bearing on natural fertility levels. If you think about it, it makes sense from an evolutionary perspective as pregnancy and childbirth are far more risky for overweight women and the demands of looking after a newborn are worse when the mother is not in good health.

    I really don't mean to offend by this, and I know how hard it is to lose weight with hormonal complications, but also from my own experience how easy it was to convince myself that being a bit overweight wouldn't make any difference as plenty of bigger women can conceive naturally, but the statistics do show that being overweight makes it more likely that you will have fertility issues, and this was my experience too.

    I totally agree with you nicki.

    Unfortunately I don't for one moment believe that todd was attempting to impart his knowledge,his sole intentions were to upset and rile lots of hormonal ladies..........

    My BMI is 21 (never been much over that), never smoked, don't drink, no caffeine, exercise 40mins 3 times a week, cook from scratch most days. People should not assume just because we are having problems conceiving we are overweight/smoker/heavy drinker etc

    I think my problem is my age:p Or maybe because I live in another country from DH:rotfl: And PCO, pretty poor male issues including problems performing when I ov:o

    DH's BMI is even lower, but does drink occasionally.

    You can't do ivf, if u are overweight, smoking etc etc.,

    They want your BMI at a certain level before they consider it.

    I thought the cut off for IVF was a BMI of 30? For me, that would be almost 4 stone over my natural healthy weight, and I personally have not been able to conceive at that kind of level. I need to be within a stone of the bottom of the weight ranges for my height, so probably within half a stone of my natural maintainable weight.

    I know I've mentioned her before but I found the Marilyn Glenville fertility and diet advice really helpful when we were trying. If I recall correctly, she advises the optimum BMI for fertility is 21 to 24, and anything outside those ranges makes a significant difference (under as well as over) to your natural hormonal balance.

    I won't feed the troll but if he can sort my OHs sperm and retrograde ejaculation that would be great.

    I too am the perfect BMI, don't drink or smoke and eat healthy. I am a model IVF patient for sure but still no baby.

    Had my acupunture this morning and just hoping those follicies grow now, ideally they should have been a bit bigger at this stage but I am hoping by scan on Friday that they have increased lots. Finger crossed. xxx

    On a cheerier note, EDD has been and gone, so I hope to have news for you all within the fortnight. Looking at all the activity going on this month I hope we'll have a load of fresh BFPs soon.

    Also, an IRL friend of mine that I've been trying to support has just had a BFP on clomid (even though they'd told her she hadn't O'd). I thought I'd share, as I know we don't get many positive results from clomid alone, so it's good to have a reason to keep the faith!
    Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o :o
