The Trials and Tribulations of Trying to Conceive when its just not happening (12m+)

Well it didn't go well but I guess the outcome was the best we could hope for. DH's SA was worse than last time. Much worse (and it wasn't good last time). Still, we have an excellent doctor who has now referred us straight to the fertility clinic - pretty much saying we have no hope of managing to conceive ourselves.
We should expect an appointment in around 8 weeks. We fit the criteria since I stopped smoking 2 weeks ago (the doc was fab and has ticked the box that says i'm a non smoker even though the criteria says I should have given up 6 months ago)
In one way i'm relieved - now we know the problem we can fix it. In another, i'm incredibly sad that something millions of people do without thought, we can't manage by ourselves.
Add to that the success rates for treatment being so low and the fact we can only afford the NHS goes........ I don't even want to think about that.
From what I can glean, we'll be straight onto IUI as it seems i'm OV'ing fine - although my FSH is high so they may investigate that further.
I guess at least we can stop the hoping every month (yeah, right!)
SK xAfter 4 years of heartache, 3 rounds of IVF and 1 loss :A - we are finally expecting our miracle Ki11en - May 2014 :j
And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!0 -
Pleased everything is moving for your sexki11en, your Dr seems on the ball. Take one stage at a time.
Tabatha - hope they find the problem now you are being referred, keep positive.
Well done Jibs on your scan, hopefully I can join you soon.
Had baseline scan today and lining is clean and thin and ovaries look fine, though they can only see one, its quite common apparently when you are down reging. Start stimming tomorrow. Double injections here I come.BEST WIN LAST YEAR - MULBERRY HANDBAGSENDING STICKY VIBES TO THOSE WHO NEED THEM

Time for another cliche to come out: one door may close on us, but another one soon opens. We may not all take the same path to achieve the same goal as sometimes our path might meander more than we ever thought it would, but hope will carry us along whatever.
So hugs SK to you and DH (as he is definitely in need this evening!) and to anyone else feeling in need tonight, x0 -
Sexki11en (((hugs))).
Jujugaboo, things are moving really quickly for you!:j
You'll join Jibs in no time:cool:0 -
Oooh good luck Jujugaboo!!!! I don't envy you doing the injections yourself and hope I never have to get there, but I guess just need to keep the goal in sight!!!
Hugs for everyone else!!! There are lots of sad stories around at the moment!!
I haven't got much going on - although I have been getting very mild cramps in my lower tummy for couple of days. And sometimes slight shooting pains in sides, normally right side. I'm always so hot at the moment as well. But it's probably mostly my imagination or maybe I'm coming down with something. I was actually a little shocked to find out that if my cycle is the same lenght as last one, I should be due early next week week. Which means either AF or POAS :-)
Oh and I have a question for temping people. I've been regularly temping for 2 months now and last month was all up and down and up and down etc so I couldn't make anything out of it. This month however it looks like I had 2 rises - one around the time the nurse said I probably will OV and the other a couple of days later. Temp never went down inbetween, just went up again a little bit. Is that quite normal? Which one should I consider as OV?
Have a nice day!!0 -
Kairi, probably the first rise is your ov.
Do you have the link to your chart?0 -
So the actual results...
Volume 4.3ml (good)
PH 8.5 (good)
No antisperm antibodies (good)
Concentration 21.5million/ml (just over the reccommended)
Progressive Motility 33% (bad - should be greater than 50%)
Normal forms 5% (bad - should be greater than 15%)
Motile Normal Sperm 0.4million/ml (very bad - should be 1.5 or more)
So there we are. Now trying to research what might be done next. In our trust we can have up to 3 IUI and a combination of 6 of the following IUI (max of 3), OV medication, Donor insemination. We don't need OV medication and won't contemplate donor insemination yet. We also get one round of IVF or ICSI. Am I right in thinking though that with MNSC of 0.4 - there is a chance they won't do IUI and will move straight on to ICSI? Anyone have any ideas what might be in store for us now?
SK x
Aghhhh - sorry for the bold font - no idea why it's doing that - Bold isn't highlighted. After 4 years of heartache, 3 rounds of IVF and 1 loss :A - we are finally expecting our miracle Ki11en - May 2014 :j
And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!0 -
Normal forms threshold has been lowered to 4%.
My DH's is 1% though:o0 -
had our appointment at the hospital yesterday, and am now really depressed and downing chocolate like you wouldn't believe

got to see the consultant and she took a few details and then said, "but you are privately funded so it will be at least april until we do any private treatments again as we have a backlog of Nhs patients" at this point i burst into tears, and said that it seemed a little unfair as we had been waiting since april for this appointment and having to pay for it, she then dissapeared for a couple of moments, when she came back she said it was the hospitals fault, we had been put on the nhs pile instead of the private pile, we should have been seen in may, my oh then took over as i was a blubbing mess:o and asked if they were doing private treatments then, to which she said "yes" i said that this was really unfair as it was obviously their mistake, as it had PRIVATE REFERRAL on our doctors letter, so she dissappeared again, she then returned and said that as it was obviously their mistake it will go before a panel today to decide if we can have treatment now or will have to wait until the new tax year, so sat here eating chocolate waiting for a phonecall
sorry to ramble on just soooo fed up at moment.
good luck jugjugaboo hope all goes well
good luck to all who need it
