    Hi

I would like to donate blood but my when I mentioned it to my mom she said that as I was taking regular medication that I wouldnt be able to.

    Is this correct?

I just depends on the type of medication you are on.

The only way you can know for sure it to give them a call and ask.

www.blood.co.uk The number is on the left of the page, they will ring you back if you prefer just fill in your details after following the link.

Sholdnt they do away with getting you to sign something which says in essecense "if anything goes wrong, you cant sue us "?
  • I gave blood on Wednesday, my sixth time, when I removed the plaster on Thursday I thought I had been tattooed! I took this picture today, 4 days later, and if anything it's got worse:

I understand there can be some bruising involved, but what the hell is the purple stuff?! It hasn't faded at all since Thursday.

By the way, don't let this put you off if you are thinking of giving, this is the first time anything like this has happened! Plus they had KitKats and Mini Cheddars this time, so I'm definitely going back!

I give blood often! My DS had open heart surgery in 1993 & needed 12 pints off blood!

    Blood donors are life savers!

  • Last night at my local doning centre the queues were SO enormous - spilling out of the hall (people outside, standing in corridors etc.) that I gave up. Even with an appointment, I was told I "couldn't be seen for over an hour".

NBS had written to me inviting me to the specific session, advising that they were desperate for my O+ve blood, how low stocks were etc.

With stocks low, NBS had a publicity campaign, but had failed to increase the number of sessions to cope with the vast increase in donors their publicity had created. Staff told me these scenes had been repeated all week; and they had not been warned to expect them.

Sadly, many folk will be put off responding to future appeals (I overheard conversations) as a result of their experience, which would be a shame. I have written to NBS about this.

Will try another centre when all the publicity has died down.....
  • Crikes, thanks for reminding me about this, I live in London so I can just go to the donor centre so I have no excuse not to give blood, plus I'm an O- with a high iron count so it's not like it's going to exactly go to waste.. will book my appointment now!

    Cheers! xx

Well back in the saddle with my latest donation today, it was so relaxing after a stressfull week to be able to just sit there and have a chat with the nurses and attendants, I was the only one there for most of the time, it is good to be the centre of attention for a change.
  • I've got an appointment for next Thursday..........now to keep away from germs til then!!!
