I've signed your petition!
And I just gave my third donation before christmas, think they are back to my town in march or april£2008 for 2008 member no.514| Grocery Challenge:2008 - February £39/£160 | Lunch Log Challenge #63: Spent: £2.03 |0 -
I had to cancel my appointment today because of work commitments, I hate when that happens as I am usually so careful arranging my time but i just got a new position with more pay so I have had to concede this time.
I will be back in the chair again when things settle down and I can plan my hours again.
Anyone want to step in and take my place?
You would be most welcome, a new donor would be great but a lapsed donor would be equally welcome.0 -

I donated yesterday for the first time in almost 8 years.
I had been meaning to start donating again ages ago after the birth of my youngest dd who is 4, but just never seemed to get round to it.
After reading fsdss thread about her nephew rick, it motivated me to get off my bum and actually do it rather than think about it.0 -
wow that's good of you. did u get ur free biccis?
the stock levels are currently VERY LOW hopefully if news gets around people could start donating again.Do Something Amazing- Give Blood0 -
Hi all,
I work for the service & it's really lovely to see this thread on here! I admire all of you for the time & effort you clearly give.
This is for your information, so you can each make up your own minds.
Currently we are undergoing a major restructure. The main plan is to cut the number of blood centres from 14 to 3. The 3 sites will be Colindale (London), Bristol & Manchester. The others will close apart from having a fridge to hold stock for local hospitals. Now as you can imagine the logistics of this are very far-reaching!

I apologise if I am not allowed to post this type of info on the MSE forum. Please remove it if I have broken the rules.
Many thanks...
So how will this affect our donations? I live in Sheffield, does this mean that my donation will have to travel to Manchester for processing then back over the Pennines to the Sheffield hospitals? How many miles will my donation have to travel?
More to the point, does this mean I will have to travel to Manchester to donate?Extra Payment Every Week Challenge:
Week 1: £29.68
Week 2: £14.95
Week 3: £5.050 -
Hi
I would like to donate blood but my when I mentioned it to my mom she said that as I was taking regular medication that I wouldnt be able to.
Is this correct?0 -
Hi Jue,
If the plan went ahead as it was introduced to the staff in Nov 2006 then yes, your donation would be processed in Manchester.
Donor sessions will remain local so you wouldn't have to travel.
We are now awaiting the results of another board consultation (NHS spends more money on outside agency consultants; 'McKinseys' if anyone's interested!). The latest recommendations were presented to the board on Jan 10th 2008 & apparently accepted. The staff will find out what they are during the week of 28th Jan. I hope to keep you all posted.
Your precious donations are all safe. This is thanks to your dedication in giving and all the staff within the service that maintain their professional & moral obligations.
Thanks for asking!0 -

It all depends on what the medication is - there are quite a few drugs that don't prevent donation.
You could call the NBTS Helpline on 08457 711 711 and ask. The staff there are ever so friendly and will be able to give you a definite answer.
