Weekly sign-on at Job Centre

How long does it take most people to sign on each fortnight ? I would assume at a very busy jobcentre a maximum of 1 hour if there are very long queues but I would imagine the actual time is a lot less.
If you are single and under 25 I believe that someone on JSA would receive £50:95 a week or £101:90 a fortnight
If you are signing on once a fortnight you will be receiving £101:90 for one hours effort which in my opinion isn't too bad an hourly rate.
If you had to sign on every week you would receive £50:95 for an hours effort (which is still a very, very good hourly rate) so why all the complaints.
It makes me angry that people don't want to sign on every week for six weeks but still expect their jobseekers allowance.0 -

Not sure why, just grateful. Dont think I could face the humiliation and patronising weekly instead of fortnightly, I dread going in, I really do
I guess I need to count myself lucky then the staff that I have come across. Maybe its the size of the job centre or where it is. Mine is in a smallish town, so may not have such a vast workload everyday.
And the story you told about the oldish chap just made me feel really sad.
I really hope you get something soon.0 -

I think the point is - who actually benefits by changing the signing on time from fortnightly to weekly. certainly not the job centre staff as they are apparently too busy to deal with even the normal people on fortnightly signing and not us unemployed if the intention is that making us sign on weekly will improve our chances of finding a job.0 -

I have been treated like dirt in my local JC even though I am nothing except polite, enthusiastic and pleasant to every person I come into contact with in the JC, I just dont get it really. I have worked in customer facing positions and dealt with real a holes all day long, got sworn at called names but I just let it go over my head and I knew that not everyone was like that.
When I went in for my 1st signing on I was in a queue to hand in my pack.
A sweet oldish well dressed chap in front of me asks the person on reception if he can have the form to sign on as he has just been made redundant.
JC person says no you can phone up or do it over the internet or take it away.
Old guy says ok is it ok if I have a form and complete it and hand it in
JC person says no you will have to go away
Old guy says but its taken me nearly half an hour to walk here please can I not just complete it here and leave it with you
JC person says - No you will have to go away, do you not have a home ?
At this point I got called in so dont know what happened but is this really any way to treat anyone, this guy was a normal decent, non abusive person and this is how he was treated.
This is not good customer service you are right but our hands are tied but there is also a good reason for the new way.
You ring the contact centre they fill in the form with you over the phone, less mistakes and the forms can be very confusing. The completed form is then at the jobcentre ready for you when you attend your new claim, peope used to turn up without them then waste time filling in another one. The form is then accessed immediately by the processing centre without having to wait for it to go through the post end up on the wrong desk or get lost.
This is supposed to be more effiecient helps some people but not others.
What we actually want to offer is pointless we can only work with the system the govement dictate.0 -
I agree busy mom but the attitude made me very upset (and him I imagine)
there are all manner of people in various states of drunk/high at our local JC so I can imagine it wearing a bit thin but this was at about 9.30am.
I go out of my way to be uber nice to everyone when I sign on, some people are nice some people are not I guess its just whether your face fits that day or not really.0
