why cant the government ask people that actually deal with the front line what would be best suited to help people. All the big wigs further up the ladder are so out of touch they have no idea what it is like on the shop floor so to speak. At least then people that sign on may have a chance at getting tailored help suitable to the job market and themselves. and not an out dated system that seems to deliberately alienate people.
Oh you are sooooo right, I have been summoned to a meeting today wanting to know why we aren't referring enough people to our new so called newly unemployed offers, why aren't we hitting the work trial target etc etc
When you try to explain exactly what is happening in the office and what customers actually want the reply 'yes but we want to see more referalls........... in one ear out the other.
Send some of the ministers into jobcentre make then sit on the frontline for 1 day then lets see what changes they make.:rolleyes:0 -
i'm left bewildered that when OH signs on and asks for training or to get on any of the courses he never seems to meet the set criteria. They have things designed for lone parents so we dont qualify 6mths unemployed don't qualify because of previous mess up with interview had to reclaim. they had sent OH to a course that would help him write a CV (he has no formal qualifications so not much to put on one) and help finding and preparing for interviews but they never actually done anything other than look through papers and check JC jobs online.
The interview prep was a ten minute convo that covered dressing smartly and not wearing inappropriate clothing. nothing about how to conduct yourself or what questions to avoid or ask which to me would be important.
Even when i went in and asked if i could be put forward for back to work i was told i would be contacted as they don't just forget the partners. I had an interview at the JC but no one has ever contacted me even though i asked for anything.
It's just not a system that works.slowly going nuts at the world:T0 -
My comments. Job Center is useless.
Staff having to deal with !!!!!!? No excuse to be !!!!!! to everyone. If it where a bank they'd be expected to treat every customer cheerily and with a smile, regardless of how the last customer acted.
We are suposed to deal with 30, but we get 150! If this is indeed the case the goverment hire new staff and open new job centers! Thus making jobs! I know of three job centers which have closed in the last 5 years! Get them open again! They can rase the money by scapping A4e schemes which do jack crap to help anyone and cost around £250 extra per week per person.
We don't make the rules, we just follow them! Not entirely an excuse, if the system is that bad, if you all think it dosn't work, complain about it. Arrange a petition, kick and scream, call the papers. If you're not part of the soultion you're part of the problem!
I've been interupted and can't remeber what the rest of this topic said so I'll post what I have so far.0 -

You really have no idea :rotfl:you are giving me a good laugh though
New people have been recruited, takes week of training before they interview, put a new person straight out with me Joe public and we will get more abuse for being useless.
Speak to the papers about how crap the system is... really see that working, all the ministers are telling mr brown how crap he is and that's making loads of difference so a few workers that a prepared to stand up and shout is really going to change things.
Glad you forgot what you were saying cause it ain't worth reading:D
Just noticed you signature, 2 years unemployed suppose that the jobcentre fault as well, contry to belief there are jobs might not be what you have studied for a job is a job in my eye, I left school with 6 GCSE gardes, staight onto a YTS and have never been unemployed. Done some real !!!!!!!! low paid jobs even a stint in local maccys.
Now mid 30's and hard work paying off, just get off your backside, lower your standards and try a job, you never know you might like it :rotfl:0 -

Weeks! Yeah fair enough, I was under the impression that we've been in recession since the end of 2007, and that unemployment has been increasing since then. Now that I check though this all started on Wednesday! My mistake!Speak to the papers about how crap the system is... really see that working, all the ministers are telling mr brown how crap he is and that's making loads of difference so a few workers that a prepared to stand up and shout is really going to change things.
Didn't say it had to have an effect, all I said is you cant do nothing then blame the system.Just noticed you signature, 2 years unemployed suppose that the jobcentre fault as well, contry to belief there are jobs might not be what you have studied for a job is a job in my eye, I left school with 6 GCSE gardes, staight onto a YTS and have never been unemployed. Contrary to belief you don't actually know me! Though it appears you work for "Job Centre Plus" so judging people you don't actually know must be second nature to you.
I haven't even applied for a single job in my field of study, I've only ever applied for warehouse, sales, admin, type jobs.
Perhaps you should get off your throne and find out what us paupers are like before you judge us and try to put us down.0 -
These threads always seem to divide people into lovers or haters of JCP!
Personally I don't have anything against them, apart from that the most smelly man ever comes in when I'm due to sign! I've found one girl in there absolutely lovely to deal with, she puts everything through really quickly and talks to me like I'm an actual human. Good job really because I'm on the waiting list for an AO position and if I got put in that JobCentre it'd be amusing.
However, I don't agree with weekly signing, and if they bring it up at my 13 week review I'll tell them exactly that. I can prove I've been attending interviews (they should know they've been processing all my TIS claims!) and have had a job offer. And I don't need a course to tell me how to dress or sit on job points, I can do that at home.0 -

Jobcentres have been recruiting for months now, the office I work in has doubled it's staff numbers in 12 mnths, long recruitment process, long training.
Having worked for the jobcentre for 10 years yes I have seen lots of people who like you they all seem to blame us for you not having a job, is it really our fault?
I might not agree with the all the systems but the main problem is still people expect us to do everything for them. It is not my second nature at all to judge people but then i will not take responsibility for you not having a job, there are jobs out there you have stated you only ever apply for warehouse admin or sales, what wrong with other work?
You know nothing about my circumstances so what makes you think I am in such better circumstances You could be a single person living at home so your JSA supports you, or maybe not
Have you though I could well be a single parent juggling, work and childcare, rent and nursey bills?
Stop blaming the jobcentre.0 -
Stop blaming the jobcentre.
See, I can understand what your saying about people blaming the jobcentre because they don't have a job. But the jobcentres themselves can go a long way in helping people have a better opinion of them too.
Like I said before, I can't fault the person I sign with, and theres been some really other helpful people too.
What gets me though is that in previous jobs I would go out of my way to help someone. Say, I used to work in a mobile phone shop and we didn't have to send customers phones for repair or give them one to use, we could've just told them to call customer service. But I took time out from my targets to help these people, and it was only a five minute job.
What I see is a lot of people who work in my local jobcentre on the main enquiry desk, and someone comes in with a query. Something simple and something that could be checked on a computer within a couple of minutes. Instead they send the person away to sit in a queue on the phone for half an hour while they stand around waiting for the next person. Now if that was me, I'd be wanting to help the person as much as possible. I'm not saying not to do it if you don't know what advice your giving, but a simple query deserves some simple curteosy. And it'd go a long way in improving my perception of the JobCentre as they seem only to keen to pass off anything to somebody else.0 -

Sorry.. what? where did I ever blame you or the Job Center for me not having a job?It is not my second nature at all to judge people but then i will not take responsibility for you not having a job,
Then why do you keep doing it?you have stated you only ever apply for warehouse admin or sales, what wrong with other work?
I stated nothing of the sort. You implied (without knowing a thing about me) that I was only applying for jobs within my field of study. This is not the case, I have only applied for "normal" jobs usually being warehouse, sales, or admin positions. You know nothing about my circumstances so what makes you think I am in such better circumstances
The fact you just spend half a post boasting about all your varied jobs, the fact you've never been unemployed and you telling me I should be like you.Have you though I could well be a single parent juggling, work and childcare, rent and nursey bills?
Why exactly are you telling me this? I don't give a rats bottom about your life.0 -

Me neither about yours to be honest.0
