Why do some people on JSA go from a fornightly sign-on to a weekly appointment at the Job Centre?
Whats the reason for this, its not as if you get any extra help with looking for work

my guess is to put more pressure on you and make sure you are available for work!
does anyone know why long term signers have to go to a different floor and keep seeing the same person all the time and how long does it last for?:footie:0 -
after three and six months you are obliged to attend weekly.
it serves no purpose, but the JC muppets seem to think that by attending weekly more jobs will magically become available.
quite why people need to attend at all is beyond me. Of course it's because those selfsame bureaucrats need the work and incorrectly assume that people are of course lazy.0 -

Not everyone does!

at various stages of unemployment they do a "swim" which is suppose to be a weekly intesive job search with the unemployed person.0

Yes - I think that's the idea of weekly sign-in. Assuming that Jobcentre staff have time to help with job search, and are competent to do so, it could mean that people are given a couple of extra suitable jobs to apply for each week. Otherwise, it's just an extra trip into the jobcentre each fortnight.0 -
You can also be asked to sign on weekly if you have missed your signing on date - you can be seen by them as being unreliable and unable to keep appointments. I found that I needed to see someone upstairs because one day I dared to ask if I could sign on early and then was told that I had to sign on weekly and see someone else - funnily enough this person kept me waiting for over an hour which was quite ironic because I was told that the reason I was seeing her was because I had demonstrated to them that by being early I couldnt keep appointments - needless to say her tardiness got short shrift from me:D0

OK. Ive never missed an appt, nor been late. I have been applying for loads of jobs and still keep evidence of this so it must be a pointless excercise for the JC staff, in that it wastes more time (for them). They have one source of jobs and that is JCP. I can look at this in the comfort of my own home, why they need to check it when im there I dont know!
Sigining on each week is utterly pointless and generates more work for the DWP staff.
Anyway, After about 15 weeks unemployed think i could get an offer soon!!

If you meet the criteria of paying 2 years worth of NI contributions prior to claiming JSA, I question the need as to why you have to go through the humilliation each week of signing on and dealing with these JCP t***rs who just have not got a clue !!
Do we not pay NI contributions when we are in full time work to insure us against becoming unemployed and giving people a right to claim JSA.
By all means be hard on the shirkers who after 6 months show no intention of looking for work but treat those who may be claiming for the first time with some dignity.0 -
They done the weekly signing on to my OH what a nightmare that caused. It was supposedly so that you spend more one to one time with the adviser looking for suitable jobs and filling in applications. The adviser kept giving OH a job for a HGV driver and when he didn't return the filled application adviser went to a supervisor to see if OH should be removed from JSA as he was not meeting the criteria ie activly seeking work.
Now this was not OH being picky about the job it was a great wage good hours too, the problem was OH dose not have a HGV license. Then the following week OH got an interview from an application filled in at JC but it would mean missing signing on time. So he went to JC told them said to check etc they said it was fine come in after interview even wished him luck.
The adviser refused to let him sign on and we had to reclaim JSA even though they knew and said it was fine. Sorry rant over but it really annoyed me.slowly going nuts at the world:T0 -
Whenever a "regular" poster here challenges someone (say like need a crisis loan but 2 weeks before they paid £520 on stones for the garden) on here, they are accused of being "judgmental".
Yet it appears ok to call other people (trying to help them) "muppets".
