(Sorry can't give links yet )
This is good for getting last minute bargains from ebay if you have time to trawl through it all. When I haven't had the money to shop it just fulfills that urge to get something new without spending a fortune.

Also...do you have friends or relatives similar sizes that you could do a bit of a wardrobe swap with. I think they call it swishing.:D

I love the idea of a clothes swap party, but don't know how to go about arranging one. Any ideas, or is that a new thread in itself?

I would say its just a matter of inviting a few people round ask them to bring a bag of nice clothes that they no longer want or fit into and seasonal. Probably better to have a few drinks (but that might just be me :D). Ask them to bring a bottle and put out a few nibbles.

The key to it is to ask the right people, those who are very sociable and down to earth, and that know each other well enough to have their leg pulled when they bring out a valour tracksuit! :D

  • Well, after reading this thread I took everyone's advice and hit the charity shops! Last week I got a gorgeous new jacket (2.99) and blouse (1.99). So this week I hit the charity shops again, and from various shops I have 3 new (to me!) blouses, at £1.99 each :D oooh I'm loving shopping now, I don't think I can bear to go in a normal shop again, the prices are a rip off.

I'm a bit (:o) chubby so am a 16/18 and Primark don't have anything for me generally, or Peacocks.

Next time I'm going in search of trousers and a coat, and I always look to see if there are any "new" shoes that I can buy. :p I'm totally converted to charity shop shopping now...........................:D

  • What size are you Septemberblues? I have a pretty decent dark grey winter coat which is a bit snug now (sob) and is crying out for a new home, but it probably needs a dry-clean.

    I'm a 16/18

September blues - I haven't read the other replies, so this may have been covered. If so I am sorry but otherwise, George at ADSA is a great place to find new cheap clothes and they have some larger sizes - much too large for you! Also Tesco and Sainsbury's clothes can be very nice and very reasonable.

Primark do go up to an 18, so it is worth a look although their sizes tend to be on the small size. I tend to buy a 16 rather than a 14, so it is probably worth trying before you buy, the sizes vary a lot between items too, I tried on a pair of linen trousers in there a few weeks ago and the 14 was big enough to get off without unfastening!!! :o

I've never had much from Peacocks but bought a skirt a few weeks ago that was much bigger than I expected so also might be worth trying on in there.

For big sizes George at Asda are great, nice things right up to a 24 (maybe bigger??) and the sizes are often generous enough that you can go down a size.

Good luck with your shopping though! :D

Might be worth trying to ensure that they are similar sizes, so that things can be swapped. People often have things a size or two either side of their normal size that they don't wear available to swap, so inviting friends who are a 12, 14 and 16 would probably be fine, but inviting a friend who is a size 20 when everyone else is a 10 or 12 might be a bit embarrassing for them.
