what size are you if you don,t want to post or i missed it sorry pm me i might be able to help0

I am in a similar position as the OP (as in all my clothes are worn out, scruffy etc) and I don't have the money to replace them.
I am SO glad I saw this thread, the ideas on here are great, I don't tend to look in charity shops for clothes, or car boots, I look in "normal" shops and feel really discouraged because I can't afford anything!
Not any more, when I go into town I will have a look in charity shops instead - I literally need a whole new wardrobe, including shoes and a coat.
And I'm going to sort out what I've got (shouldn't take long) and see if I can mend/smarten etc what I have got already.
 cheers for the great ideas xxxKEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0 -
What size are you Septemberblues? I have a pretty decent dark grey winter coat which is a bit snug now (sob) and is crying out for a new home, but it probably needs a dry-clean.0

Don't feel discouraged if you don't find anything every time you visit the CS, you just have to keep looking and some days you just hit the jackpot! Other times I can trawl every CS in town and find nothing.0 -

I'll second this - also, try & go to CS's in a well-off area of town, if possible....you'd be surprised what you can get in Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Knutsford that has been cast off by the footballers wives!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

This is such a heart warming thread!! I think a lot of time, when things like this are getting you down, being able to talk about it and share your feelings can get you 50% of the way to feeling better - and I'm sure this thread has done that.
Just to let you know that fashion magazines portray "fabulous looks" and can make you feel like you HAVE to have it, and if you don't you're not cool - and it seems thats what the other women in your office are making you feel a bit like this. BUT from doing some work experience at a few magazines, the writers and editors are often shopping in primark or bargain hunting at car boots and vintage stores and actually prefer being individual and snub high street fashion...!!! So what they write they don't always believe in...
Don't feel you have to follow all the trends, they don't work for everyone and you may not like them. If you like something you should wear it and not worry what other people think. Think style over fashion, it lasts longer. Let your clothes compliment your personality. If you want to be "fun" wear bright retro prints, or to be mysterious you could try hats and smoky eyeliner??
Everyone has been so generous on this board with advice and gifts...
Leeds lass - I think we're all looking forward to hearing about your new outfits - please come back and tell us all about itSPC5 #1651 total so far: £78.590 -

Charity shops are usually a bit hit and miss, but I got some fab bargains at the weekend, a vintage Laura Ashley dress (very wartime tea dress) in floral print for £4.99, and a vintage Monsoon floral summer dress for £4..also, bought a gorgeous floral print shirt, with a print very similar to those in Topshop at the moment, for £1.25, which I'm going to wear over things as a cardi type shrug..0 -
I never bother with charity shops as they can actually be quite expensive! But really don't discount primark, it takes a bit of perseverence but they are immensly cheap.
The other big thing is repairing stuff. Make sure you do it as soon as though, for example if you re-heel your shoes as soon as the heels are virtually through you will get masses more wear from them whereas if you leave it you can wear them so badly they are beyond repair. Same with fraying, fallen hems, holes, worn patches etc.
Learning to sew just a little bit is really moneysaving! If you get a bit better then you can save even more money by altering and customising or even making your own clothes!0 -
i suggest joining freecycle too, you can get some real nice folk on there , i give away lots of stuff myself , i sometimes buy stuff and dont wear it as i dont go out so have given a fair bit of stuff away, im being good now though and limited my spending to buying stuff i can actually wear and not just look at:rolleyes::rotfl:
car boots and charity shops are good as well, sometimes its nice just to buy a pretty top etc whether it costs £3 or 30
peacocks sales at the minute has been good if you have one, cheap acessories too , i got two bags at £3 each as my one had broke so was chuffed as the peach one is really pretty.
if you stick to basic colours like white top black top and jeans you can then match them with cheap sandals and different necklaces etc to change your look.
for instance http://www.peacocks.co.uk/Womenswear/Tops/Vests_and_Camis/WHITE_LUREX_FRILL_CAMISOLE_-36245098.html
http://www.peacocks.co.uk/Womenswear/Jeans/Bootcut_Jeans/MID_WASH_BOOTLEG_JEANS_-10099507.html
this top and jeans could be blended with any amount of different colours , necklaces shoes etc to make different looks
a brown tassle bag and belt with boots/sandals etc
nice bright pink scarf , summer sandals
blue, lemon, peach etc
i suggest items like the above as they are items that wont actually be out of fashion next year so will be able to be worn again and again if you know what i mean:rolleyes:***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0
