Put an ask out on freecycle. And check gumtree..... and the private ads, of course. As far as I'm aware, the petrol ones just keep going and going. Don't they?

cheers kc... had already thought of freecycle i can keep looking there deff ...is gum tree the same idea?

as far as i know the petrol ones do keep going and going ...i know hubby was impressed with them when he was helping his friend but just because he wasn impressed with them doesnt mean to say we have to get one ...but then is it a false economy to get a hover for instance ...we had one of them for a few years but it didnt last long with this garden ...i'm making it sound like a jungle ...honest it isnt

Its not quite, and its not quite as good - people put things up for sale, and buyers can search nationally for one thing or locally for everything.

Grass - I have an electric strimmer I haven't used for years .... the pitiful amount of grass I have now - about four square yards - believe it or not, I cut it about 3 times a year with shears. Yep. Shears. Hi-tech, thats me.

I can just begin to imagine how long it would take for me to cut ours with shears ... It would be like the fourth road bridge ... By the time I got done it would be time to start it all again

:o I have a big back garden, but its so terraced there's only one tiny patch of grass! I understand the need for scale - my sister has a ride-on mower in France, but we couldn't use it when I was there this summer (the grass was six feet high cos of the delay in getting out there, and I had swine flu!). I *will*, tho!

    I don't have these problems..my garden is very MSE ..it's only a yard...LOL.
So I don't have the answer but I don't think those hover ones are that good.
IF I had a big garden ..I'd have a sit and ride mower myself.

    hi el
if your lawns are over,,,,30 ft square id go for a small petrol rotary mower(hoover size)
if over 60 ft square,,,id go for a bigger one
    just re read your post
go for a large one thinking uk prices,,,,130?? if you keep burning them out you need a good heavy one

no the hover ones arnt great ...it did the job for a few years but it burnt out eventually ...i think it was because the garden is so bumpy...i wish i could afford to have a sit on one ...dont think the garden is quite big enough for one though
