Basically my job is totally unsuitable for a pregnant lady- I am on my feet for the majority of the time (6 hours a day, at least), constantly bending down to get things, cleaning etc. My boss has been helpful in suggesting ways to make it less unsuitable (ie. not carrying the heavier items, sitting down when quiet) but I'm now at the point where that's not enough. Is the onus on me to accept that my job cannot reasonably be changed any further and that I need to start Mat Leave ASAP, or is the onus on them to suspend me on full pay as no reasonable alternative can be found? I really don't want to sound like I'm being a big old moany pants, as I work really hard and have been so dedicated to my job, but I think it is really affecting me at the moment and don't want to risk mine and baby's health. Really interested in others thoughts before I see my boss tomorrow. I only actually see here face to face about once a month. Thanks in advance.
I know you mentioned the direct gov site but does this help anymore? http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg373.pdf sounds to me like they have to suspend you but not sure until when? Perhaps until as late as possible before you have to start SMP?
Estate agent called - not a no but not a yessomeone else who is ready to move and not like us with somewhere to sell has also put an offer in but lower than ours so the vendors are still deciding.
OH gone out for the evening so might even catch up with goings on here, who knows!!!0 -
Glam- he may be happy to have take aways but he wont be allowed them. we will mots probably have one the night baby comes home!'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

i wanna play with the buggy again but i;m not allowed...'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
GISI - just found this too. Hope some of this / people's comments support you in some way. To think I am moaning about not being able to work at home like some of my pregnant colleagues!

I asked my MW about a birthplan and she said 'Oh they cover that at Parentcraft' Last night we were told 'Don't bother, it goes out the window'
OH won't do takeaways as we are skint! I'll have to make sure he has plenty of food in - cupboards will be stocked and 2 freezers full. He won't do a 5 min walk to ASDA for milk - he'll go without.
Thanks boo - I must measure it on the weekend, its currently on top of baby wardrobe which is 6 foot high and I can't reach.
GISI - have they done your risk assessment? if they have I would suggest they do another one as things have obviously changed for you as you have progressed in ur pregnancy. I doubt very much they would suspend you - you could ask if you could do more of a desk job.
Could u afford to start mat leave at 29 weeks if need be?
Glam- I'm slowly filling the freezer with things that just need to be bunged in the freezer for those first couple of weeks. Going quite well so far but I hope to crack on with more when I'm on ML.
I've had Risk Assessments, and to be honest work have been very reasonable but I'm at the point now where it's not enough. I can't really afford to start ML at 29 weeks, I'm starting at 34 weeks as it is, but am probably gonna ask to bring it forward to 32 weeks.
Pookie- I guess getting signed off would be the next step if we can't resolve it. I'm someone who is very rarely off sick, so it grates a bit with me. I'm also a store manager so would be quite stressed about what was going on in my abscence. As far as I know nothing has been done about sorting my replacement and I'm supposed to start ML in 5 and a half weeks as it is!:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
GISI - Im not sure of whether the onus is on them or you so sorry I cant help but hope you manage to get it sorted tomorrow. Its horrible having work to worry about too on top of everything when you just wanna enjoy being pg, I am currently [STRIKE]telling[/STRIKE] liasing with my boss about training my replacement and its never straightforward!!
No probs Glam. Well I just went and checked my mattress and it is the one without holes so I have just emailed the seller advising. Not sure whether this makes much difference or not, anyone know?

Omfg i'm so angry, got my DS in from playing out about an hour ago, and all the local kids are still out, was looking out of the window to see next doors girl with her pants down and peeing on the hill. Not only that but she seems to have an obsession with lifting her skirt up and showing her bits from what i just saw.
I went out and told her it was disgusting and does her mother know etc, i don't let my dog 'go' where the kids play, thing is i can't really go tell her mother as she's terminally ill (and only my age) but her parents are usually here to look after the brat. I know her behaviour will be down to whats happening at home but i draw the line with that - i dont think she's done it where my DS is but he's told me she's done it to one of the older lads (9) which frankly is disgusting that my DS even knew about it.
Grrrrrrrrrrr.:mad::mad:0 -

Thank you for the links Always- that is really helpful. I think I really need to put my foot down and get my side across.
Fattybooboo- thanks for your good wishes. Sorry you're having problems with your replacement, it's never plain sailing, is it.
Beenie- I agree that is pretty gross, but I also can't imagine what it must be like to be a kid with a poorly mum so maybe tread a bit softly....:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
GISI - I haven't had a day off sick for ages. But u have to think of yourself and the baby - if you get sick pay then I would get a sick note. I don't get sick pay which is why I've plodded on thru it - the end is in sight now. Thank god
