    Hello All

I haven't posted for ages but since you have a lovely new thread I thought I'd try again and try to keep up this time;)

I can't believe how quickly time is passing - I'm 27 weeks today and am really pleased that things have settled down over the last month although there was a time when I had so much bleeding that I never thought I'd reach this stage.

Anyway, since it seems Bubba is definitely here to stay I am now trying to catch up and get organised for his/her arrival!

Does anyone have any maternity leave tailored budget planners they have done and they would be prepared for me to have a look at? I am trying to work out finances and how long I can afford to take off on maternity leave and I'm not really sure where to start.

    Thanks All

    Vic

Hi Vicky, glad to see you posting again :)

The HM revenue site is good for working out what you are entitled to. I did it and got £46 per month for child tax credit, nothing for working tax and £80 per month for child benefit (me and OH both have good jobs working full time). I think these are about right but before tax so not really sure how much I'm going to get :o Just going to keep fingers crossed!

My sister recommended spending about £800 before baby arrives but she bought most things new - I still haven't bought anything yet, need to get a move on!

Breast is best as we've been told so i'm thinking it's not goner be as easy as I thought (Type of bottles?) more research i think.

Didn't even think about microwave size so thanks for the input jennynoo.

Jam - your not too far away really!

The MW didn't really talk much about homebirth, but that's cos no-one in the group was planning on one. I actually found the hospital quite accommodating, the delivery suites were a shock because they were large, clean and comfortable - not what I would have expected from Tameside, but we found it great just seeing things...
    A few tips,
You need to meet at the actual labour ward - it's the door nextdoor to where the scan take place. You need to buzz in through security and there is a few chairs and a vending machine - we noticed all the couple before us took the seats and none of the men even offered their seats for us pregnant ladies!!!
The talk is done in a different building, so don't worry you don't stay there. Make sure you take a drink, it gets very warm. I would avoid the actual hospital grounds for parking - we parked by the park, which was almost empty because it was so early!

Sorry If I am telling you stuff you already know :o

Matt the steam sterilisers are easiest, but also most expensive. If she plans to breastfeed i would just get one 2nd hand or a cheaper one. I'm sure we are tricked into buying these things, what's wrong with a pan of boiling water? :D
having said that i've got a steam one because my sister gave me it!

Ive actually got all three types of steraliser now but im thinking i may get rid of the electric steam one as i dont need it and ive always used microwave before with no problems. I only bought it because it was reduced to £8 in discount store near me and they are nearly £50 everywhere else that was a spur of the moment purchase and takes up to much room on my limited work surface. Im planning on breast feeding but you still need a steraliser. The cold water one is for when we go away to the caravan :-)

I know lol, we only remember the bad points ! I really did try to think of some good ones but ....

You'd be stuck for saying something without that doctor!

Have you been to that mothercare (Mcare world) ..at ancoats? We dont have many baby shops around anymore with everything under one roof. Mothercare use to be good but that one there is very scruffy
