I'm breastfeeding and the baby's in our bed at night. It means I can feed her whilst lying down and we both fall asleep! It woud be nice to express so DH can feed her but I want her to get used to the breast first before introducing teats.
I took her and DS out yesterday for the first time. We walked down to the canal to feed the ducks. She started crying as soon as we set off, so 10 mins into the walk I had to find a secluded spot on the lane to feed her. It's all built up around here!
This one handed typing takes forever! Going to go and make a cuppa now she's fallen asleep.........Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0 -
I, too, have a tendency to reject an idea if someone is pushing it at me. lol
Thats like me with teh whole BF, I do want to do it, but the more OH and MIL bang on about it the more it makes me not want to.
MIL likes to push her opinions on people, and yes she might have the right opinion this time lol but I still feel as though its being forced on me?Debt £30,823.48/£44,856.56 ~ 06/02/21 - 31.28% Paid OffMortgage (01/04/09 - 01/07/39)

kindof - I think the 'infant potty training' is called Elimination Communication and I know skinty (who's in labor!) has done some research and posted links in the past and jennynoo has expressed interest, too.
ETA: here's the start of the conversation we had a few weeks back: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=21204623&highlight=elimination+communication#post21204623
Like Triggles, I'm not interested in co-sleeping at all but want to have moses basket/whatever next to the bed for 1st few months just to help with nighttime feedings! Will likely move babe to crib in other room once it outgrows the moses basket as this is what works well for our house. I'm not so much interested in things like EC, but I am interested in baby sign language, baby learn-to-read things and baby-led weaning (this for definite). I don't know - still this early in pregnancy it's hard to make finite decisions about we want for our babies, so right now it's very much exploration and research!top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne

OK, EC. I will just post all the links I've got then. There is a Yahoo group as well. I started pulling info off all these sites and sticking it into a word doc so I had the stuff I'd need in one place. I haven;t bought any of the books people mention because I don't think I'm mentally that committed to it. I might be later on but right at the beginning there will be enough to do without being strict on EC as well!
The links say you can do it with nappies as well, so I'm going to be slightly half-hearted about it and see what happens.

I'm going to try it out but like her be quite half hearted about it - there will be nappies, but once the baby can support her own head I'll look out for the visual/body cues and try to get her to go in the potty.
We're not going to co-sleep unless the baby's very fussy/not well/teething or some other situation where we'd need to keep a closer eye on her. We're also not using reusable nappies, mostly because we don't have a garden to hang out the nappies and running a dryer daily in this heat would cause us all to melt. We will breast feed and express as necessary though - it's all about making your own choices based on your own informed decisions. We all want what's best for our babies and so we'll all do what works best for us with that ideal in mind.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Nicki, I think the elective is the best thing for you, but of course it's you decision. We're here to moan at any way.
Skinty, hope things keep moving and it's an easy birth for you, sounds like you have things under control.
Co-sleeping. Is a big NO for me. I sometimes act out dreams and the one time DS1 was in bed with me one morning I had his little wrist in my hand and I was crushing it (in my dream it was an empty can of cola). DH woke up to both of us screaming and I swore never again. Unless they are ill, in which case I am usually awake all night anyway or DH sleeps downstairs so we get more space.
We are using a moses basket for downstairs. It's worked great for us with the boys as they can be in that in the livingroom with us at night (they both had a last feed at about 11pm) and can be carried upstairs at bedtime without being woken. We usually then sit the moses basket in the cot.
In our bedroom will be the crib as we can't fit in a cot.
When she is about 3-4months she will have to go into the boys room in a cot and the boys into bunk beds (2 bed house) untill we get the loft converted, which will be a couple of years yet.
Anyone else with previus sections tell me is it normal for the scar to hurt? It feels like it is being ripped. Very painful and no matter how I sit or lie I can't get any releif from it.
Oh and my laptop is fine, it was a build up of static fixed by removing the battery for a few seconds!!!0 -

Thanks Tia. I'm pretty sure the elective c section is the way to go too. What I need to find out though, and was way too stressed to even think of asking today, is whether there are any circumstances where I wouldn't get it - either medical reasons or because I went into labour early before t date it was booked. I suspect thinking I was having an elective c section but then being forced at the last moment to deliver normally would be far too much to cope with, and worse than going for a normal delivery with some mental preparation for it beforehand. With luck though, DH will be back in time for the next appointment and can ask any questions I can't cope with!
We did the same as you with the moses basket for our two, and it worked like a dream. We are strong advocates of the "Never wake a sleeping baby" camp, particularly when its not your first (!) and this meant we weren't unnecessarily waking eitherr when going up to bed ourselves by having to lift them from pushchair to cot.
On c section scar - yes mine did hurt a lot when I was pregnant with number 2 (though it was less than a year old then), and I'm also having some, though not so much, discomfort with it this time round. It's a hot pain which feels exactly like something has been ripped open. I also haven't found anything which helps to ease it, though to be honest I don't do meds during pregnancy unless there is no choice, so I haven't had any painkillers for anything since I got my BFP, not even the SPD which is often a lot worse than the c section pain. Sorry that's not more helpful.0 -
As a random aside, I've spent a lot of the afternoon doing tons of calculations and math. Managed to work out that by reducing my working hours by 1 day/wk actually saves me more money on childcare costs because (through the magic of maths) reduces the percentage of my salary that childcare will cost. This obviously won't work with everyone and obviously I don't know for sure that I will be able to actually go to part-time. I only mention it because others may have had similar thoughts and may want to sit and go through the calculations. I suspect it worked in my case because I will get childcare vouchers for the same amt no matter how many hours I work, so that helps tons.
Sorry, that probably sounded way more confusing than it is. I wish I didn't have to return to work at all, but c'est la vie. I can explain more in detail if anyone's interested.top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne
