Ahhh maybe I should just wait untill release and see what happens etc. I dont think I could downgrade unless I was talked through it step by step. Never atempted anything like that before

If you're getting it built custom, ask the builders. They have to register windows when then install it (don't ask about this process - it boils a number of my bodily fluids every time I have to go though it), it's not that hard to do it by phone.
 I never knew, is it bad its a gamer pc? I need a high spec graphic card because I long to play the sims3. After taking this machine appart there will be no way to upgrade the graphics card, well that me and lil bro can see anyways.

It should be a slot-in card like all the rest.
    Is this not 64bit?

Yes, but I meant if you downgrade to XP, don't downgrade to 32 bit XP.
Oh and damn me, I can get the upgrade voucher  and I save £5 :j Still tempted to wait though. I guess at these price now they arnt going to shoot up are they?

If the pound gets flushed into the toilet like it did earlier this year, then prices of imports (which computer bits basically are) will leap upwards.

Alternatively the pound could massively strengthen and the prices of imports drop because our Gordon would lead us towards the Promised Land of financial miracles using a magic wand made from a Northern Rock leaflet.

But that's not high on my list of "likely things to happen".
Defrag makes no difference even weekly. That may be a proiblem its a packard bell pc (will the majority is) and I made a 'back up' disc at start up. However I have no ideas what said disc contains or if indeed it will work. I am to scared to try...

Have a look on it. See if it has at least an i386 directory.

I totally agree Z, I'm gradually gteting to that realisation. I'm close to telling him he can't come back, but I doubt he'd listen.

He can explain his case to the outside of your closed door.

As for sister, she was supposed to be helping me to sort the flat out and get my life back on track, but a lot of it's just trying to change my lifestyle to what she thinks is 'normal'. If I fall out with her though it causes problems with my family and other mutual friends.

They'll get over it. If they don't, then that's a good marker for people you don't really want to know.

After getting my weight under control I'm going to work with the health trainer on my family problems though, so hopefully things can change then.

He does a sideline as a hitman? ;)

They're not actually doing anything. OH/carer is good at talking me down when my mental health problems are bad, but that's all. Oh, and carrying the heavy bags from the car to the house.

    Do you not get home-delivery?

he wont do housework though apart from emptying the bins and doing his washing up. My sister used to cook for me until I spoke to the health trainer and realised it wasn't a good idea. She's been supposed to be cleaning my car but it's been two weeks and I'm still waiting.

She's not too enamoured with this "cleaning" thing is she?

Z, thanks again. I'm talking to him on facebook and he's trying to make me out to be unreasonable and manipulative!

Haha, I don't think she'd be a hitman, but hopefully I can find the strength to face up to confrontations with family instead of backing down for an easy life.

When I first moved in they didn't deliver to this area, and now that I'm getting in control of what I buy home delivery is a good option, as long as I could get free delivery of course! I suppose I could just get the heavy stuff delivered and go buy the fresh stuff myself.

She doesn't get the cleaning thing no. I spilt a bag of coffee on the kitchen floor weeks ago, but can't do anything about it because she's got my hoover. I keep asking for it back, but she wont give it back until she's vacc'ed her whole flat. God knows how long it'll take!

  • Hey PAP-this lappy is a Packard -Bell (garbage, never again!) and I too
made the back up disc as instructed when it was brand new. I had a problem last year, and took the laptop to a repair place, along with the back up disc....the chap in the shop said when they ran the disc, it was blank.....ho hum...

Feels me with so much confidence SRM :rotfl: However I have loved this PB, nearly 5 years old now and still going srong. Cost me a few bob for teh machine mind and then all the upgrads

:rotfl: Ztd, thansk I may just do that... saves having vista for a few months. Well the one I have now is a slot in card, but 'apparently' the slot isnt right type for the graphics cards I need to run Sims, I couldnt even get Sims2 to run through this  After going round in circles it would seem I would need to import from PB a slot to slot into this slot to get it to work  The 'slot' would cost the same price as the new graphics card :o Ah got you regards to the 64-bit thing, I miss understood ;)

So you would think they would stay about the same or go up, not too bad... well unless they rocket! See I would risk it now but I want to wait untill after upgrade really. Although even if I didnt ask for the downgrade I think I could just about 'cope' with vista for just over 2 months  Decisions decisions...

With regards to the PB disc, how do I find the i386 directory? Stick it in my pc? what if it automatically starts rebooting  Everythings backed up but I dont want to 'have' to get a pc asap :rotfl:
