The variety is "Apache" and we used another one tonight but this was quite a bit hotter!
I am sure that mine didn't have a the variety on the label. They were really tiny plants sold in 6 module tray. Perhaps someone else bought these and kept the label?
The fruits are still no longer than 1.5" long and look like the one's in the packs of Birdseye chillis in the supermarket. I think I'll start using them as they have loads of chillis and flowers on the plant and I don't want them to stop producing.
What do I use to thread them into strings to dry them?0 -

mine are the Cayenne variety, and having them being sown in mid-March or April (can't remember), I've just noticed they've developed fruits on them now. The Red Romano Peppers are catching up too but not as many as the chillis tho'. Mine are still being attacked by a pest of some sort (found leaves curling/sticking with web-like substance and holes in them). As I'm organic, I can only resort to picking off anything that looks 'pesty', but haven't found anything as yet.
My aubergines are growing ok too. The leaves are getting prickly but hopefully, they'll flower soon. They're about 40cm high. The chillis and peppers are 2feet high - both in 9" pots and all are in my mini greenhouse. It seems they like it v warm and humid.0 -
I planted my chillis out a couple of weeks ago and I wish I hadn't because we've had all this rain. The leaves are all battered and only one plant has a chilli on it:rolleyes:~~~~~~~~~~~~Halifax, taking the Xtra since 1853:rolleyes:~~~~~~~~~~~~0

I'm picking 5-10 a week from only 2 of my plants.
The rest are coming up behind - can't wait to start harvesting from other plants to give these a rest....0 -

Are yours outside? Mine are in an open raised bed. Today was quite nice, but I'm sick of all the rain. I only discovered this year that you can treat chilli plants as house plants and get a better crop the second year. I shall be digging mine up and potting them.
I have some indoors, in the greenhouse, in pots and in the ground. It is a mix as to which ones are coming on first; but the 2 that are cropping were early sown and have been outdoors in pots.0 -
Just found this thread - very interesting and thanks for all the tips.
Growing Chilli plants for the first time this year, bought 5 plug plants in the spring from Suttons, 3 surviving but very slow to get going. They are in a small greenhouse and still looking a bit straggly and only now showing a few small fruits.
On the other hand I bought 2 plants from Focus in June which already had loads of developing chillis and they are looking great. Nice bushy, stocky plants and have already picked some ripe chillis. I have now brought one of these into the kitchen on a south facing window.
I freeze chillis I have bought in the supermarkets but will have a go at drying I think - so it is just a case of stringing them together and leaving in a sunny place?0 -
Yes, wait until they are red but if the season ends then take them off green and they should turn colour eventually.
I am taking my Glebes off at cherry size as they are just right for one meal - took 15 off the day before yesterday and will remove another 10 tomorrow - it is incredibly prolific.....goodness only knows what I am going to do with the other 79ish plants.0
