I used mine when they were about 3in long (7.5 Cm) and were changing colour to red, I currently have a couple of red ones available to use of the same size and lots of green ones either similar size or smaller.

    HTH

Ah... mine are only 1.5" long and still green so I have a little while to wait. I'm still quite pleased with their progress though, considering I am in the NE.

Any idea what variety they are?

This is the chilli plant I bought from Lidl a couple of months ago. Its about doubled in size from when I bought it. I usually keep it in the greenhouse.

The label from Lidl's is still with them so when I go out to the greenhouse tomorrow I will make a note and post details here.

Sorry, you didn't say 'where's the cheapest place to buy them' I was just showing you the variety.

However, from ebay you don't know how accurate they are or whether they will germinate or not; but with Real Seeds, I know I'm going to get a good crop.

I buy seeds from loads of different places, and then swap with others so that we all end up with a huge variety; then we isolate a few flower and self pollenate and get more seeds; so that we can keep saving, growing and sharing them about.

Where did you get the seeds for the plants that you haven't been able to grow?

The variety is "Apache" and we used another one tonight but this was quite a bit hotter!

i allways have good success with chilli's

this year, something ate them all when they were about 3" high :(

Me too. I have just taken one out of the greenhouse as it was tall and had a lot of chillies on it. They are for my son who uses them a lot in his curries but this year he keeps saying he is going to wait until they change colour but I know that some chillies remain green. Tesco have small bags of them, quite expensive and I'd say there are more green ones than red. He found last year that the plant which has different coloured small chillies had the hottest ones. By the way, they are very good for you.

You could try using the seeds from the chilli you like best to make new plants next year. I have done this with tomatoes and got a very good plant. It was seed from a Vine tomato grown for Morrisons.

I use two sellers on Ebay and I've always had excellent and true results with what I've grown. In fact, the carrot and parsnip germination outstripped the big brands that people enjoying paying £2+ a packet for.

My chili plants are ok, just not growing very rapidly, and my sweet peppers suddenly dropped their leaves and died when about 8" high.

I took the plunge last weekend and planted the chilis outdoors, no dramatic growth spurts yet, but small chilis have now formed.

Someone told me to use match heads in the soil, but I don't know why:confused:
