I remember the first time I got my kefir and I was terribly worried about it, watching this funny blobby thing in a glass that tasted foul!! It was only with some encouragement from the girls on this thread, that I persevered and ended up finally with a thinner than yoghurt but creamy like consistency. My grains have been in the fridge for months, so I am going to see if I can get them going again.

I had them in the fridge for over six months before and they just took off again.

I used to use the Crusha sugar free milk shake syrup too Angelina for days when I had no fresh fruit to mix it with. Never did like it neat. I do think its probably an acquired taste though, as I remember hating yoghurt when I first had it many many years ago!

I decided that smoothies really aren't my 'thing'. I'm not fussy about food at all, but I just find them a bit weird, that's why I tried chocolate! LOL!

    Not sure what's in crusha!

  • I've just stumbled across this thread and was wondering if the group giving away kefir is still in action.

    Sounds like really good stuff.

I am quite a skinny minny but if I eat certain foods I get asked if I'm pregnant 'coz my tummy swells up - esp sweetcorn.

    Thought this might help!

I hope you are still drinking the kefir?

I've been really shaking mine grains hard and the kefir is so much creamier, almost creamy yoghurt texture.... just make sure you have a lid on your container :rotfl:

I am having kefir almost daily again. My grains which had been stored in the fridge in a little milk quickly came back to life - they are wonderful little things.

I am using the Crusha strawberry sugar free. It does appear to be full of additives but as most of the rest of my diet is pretty good, I try not to worry too much.

Thats exactly what I do. Crusha may not be the healthies thing to drink but you dont need much and think of all the benefits it comes with because you are able to get the kefir down... well thats my excuse for my daily strawberry milkshake :D

I recently "resurrected" my grains. Six months in a jar of milk out on a bench and they still came good again!!!

I used to use semi skimmed milk to make the kefir, but now use whole milk and have to say that the kefir is so much nicer. I have been using a little Rocks Organic Cordial in mine and have to say it makes a delicious drink.

I've been making kefir for the last few weeks, I have found that putting my new batch in the door of the fridge for about 3 or 4 days results in a nice, creamy kefir. I stir everything up with a spoon several times a day. If I need it to hurry up I just take it out the fridge and it ripens quicker. I recently bought bags of frozen tropical fruit for smoothies from Asda for 50p (recommended by an OldStyler on another thread) and have been making a smoothie every day, as I don't like the taste on its own! Today I used less kefir (approx 200ml) and about 100g of the frozen fruit, it was delicious.;) I'm hoping the kefir helps my immune system and the smoothie makes up a one portion of my "5 a day". The smoothie is lovely and thick.

Would anyone be willing to send me some kefir grains please?
