Go for it Gargrave but do it as a youtube channel that way you have the chance of making some money from it AND people need the information you have re moving to Oz as well as money. I am sure you would be a hit.
  • Hi Gargrave. Just popping back in and catching up. I second the suggestion for a YouTube channel if you haven't done it yet.

We finally got an offer on our house last month after 18 months on the market (and the three years prior trying to get it squared up and on the market). Just going through conveyancing right now. Holding our breath until missives are concluded but hoping to be moved within weeks.

That's the point where we can start making full and finals, so I'll be trawling through your diary to get some tips from the expert!

Interesting diary, probably one of the most inspiring ones I have read on here. To have remained focused on battling for the F and F on the debt, to ebaying what seems to have been all your possessions to holding down a job in London and commuting to and fro must have taken tremendous strength. To also manage the immigration process to Australia even more so.

Did you ever sell your house in Glasgow and pay off mortgage/secured loan?

    Gargrave,
So great to hear how happy you are Down Under. I cant believe you have been there for nearly three years, it only seems like yesterday when you were making plans and battling the Predators. Where has the time gone ? Lovely that you still drop by from time to time, I still look forward to seeing an update popping in from you xx

Wow! Thanks for the massive compliment - my journey was only as successful as it was because of the unwavering support and education I received on here! I have learned lifelong lessons that's for sure. Unfortunately our tenant damaged our property to the extent that we were unable to pay for repairs without being in negative equity and therefore we conceded to the bank and let them have it. Not proud, not right but I couldn't justify throwing good money after bad.

We are here, with 9 years to go on our mortgage and very careful with money these days! Life is particularly wonderful with my husband just securing the job of his dreams and an approx $30000 pay rise. We will never make the same mistakes again. When we need something (or want), I pick up some extra work doing clinical facilitation with a local university for midwifery students. It pays really well at almost $70 an hour. I still do surveys etc! Old habits die hard!

I am relatively time poor at the moment so a YouTube channel might be a future endeavour! Excellent news about your house - hopefully settlement goes smoothly now!

Oh God expert I am not! I learned so much from a number of people on this forum - everyone was kind - everyone was honest and I just "gave it a good crack" as they say down under! It's a scary process, but the way I viewed it my credit file was screwed at that point anyway. Stay strong, stay focussed. Any reduction is a win! Best of luck!

I cannot believe you read this diary from start to finish in one night! WOW! I could easily have welcomed the larger income, and made the same mistakes all over again. Having gone through such a painful process in the UK lifelong lessons have been learned. Now, if we need (or want) something I plan how I can make additional income to fund it. I pick up clinical facilitation work with a local university for midwifery students from time to time. It's well paid and reasonably flexible around my existing commitments. Tread your own path, learn from others and finally you will reach debt free with an invaluable lesson behind you!
