As a kiwi I would like to say that living costs may be high in NZ, but they are in Australia as well, plus we don't have any nasty insects! Though we do have wetas, which, whatever Peter Jackson says, look like giant cockroaches so are not nice. Though they are not even remotely dangerous - just icky.0

I too am a New Zealander and would have to agree about living costs. But the money is here just like any place else if you have the skills New Zealand wants. And up in Whangarei where I live it is no more than 30 minutes to some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen and to live here doesn't cost the earth to litarary have your house on the water. http://www.trademe.co.nz/property/residential-property-for-sale/auction-522894358.htm0

Hi Gargrave. I'm new to the DFW board and just found the diaries and something drew me to yours (fate I reckon). I couldn't believe it when I saw your signature. We have our PR visas for Oz (Vic State Sponsored) and we are hoping to get there asap. Just have to sell the house first but the market's pretty bleak atm
We got our visas in 2011 and visited Oz last year to activate them as we weren't ready to make the move proper at that point. While planning the trip we found out we were pregnant with our second son who arrived in November. So we got a little distracted and have only just got the house on the market earlier this year. I'm confident that the house sale will clear all debt, pay for boy number 2's visa, ship dog and furniture and us over there and still have a small bit saved to start saving for a deposit. But a 30% reduction in my salary means we're very stretched while we wait for the house to sell so we're considering a DMP in the meantime. Divorces/separations/silly spending when I was full time have resulted in a fair amount of unsecured debt.
I am sending out the positive vibes that we will find a buyer for our home and if not my aim is to clear the unsecured debt before our visas expire in November 2016 so we can go anyway and rent this house out.
I've not had a chance to read your diary in full but will start to do so now and look forward to being inspired (good job I'm still on mat leave as it'll take me a while !).0 -
