So pay in bank today, have had a re-think on things and have decided to give our finances a complete makeover! Won’t bore you with all the details. But the main thing is the credit card is gone now! With a lot of discussion and re-juggling things for this month, robbing every account possible and reducing to our minimum payment for mortgage for this month (we are currently overpaying mortgage by over £400 p/m to try to pay it off early), we will manage to clear it. The next challenge is not to spend on it again, but we have been here before, got the t-shirt and the rest is history! This time I want it to be different though. We really want to cut it up but want to keep it for emergencies if you know what I mean. I need to learn if we want something, we need to save for it, then buy it, not the other way round of buy it, then pay for it for months and months after.
I am determined to carry on with saving bits and pieces here and there where at all possible and plan to put any extra money into what I am calling the holiday account and keep track of it on here. I am still going to keep up with my diary to keep the motivation going, I feel it would be so easy to slip back into old ways, just spending money without really thinking and wasting so much. The holiday savings will be starting afresh from now, nothing went in this month obviously as it all went to the c/c. Going to leave the furniture loan running just now- it is zero percent and comes off the bank every month so it is kind of taking care of itself for the moment. I’m going to concentrate on budgeting properly and trying to get some money saved. Thank you guys for all your encouragement to date, you have all been so wonderful and I hope you will all stay with me to keep me motivated and stop me falling into my bad old ways again! We can all try and help each other.
Have also decided to forget about the w/e away I spoke about with the Tesco vouchers too, as although the b&b would be free, we would still need meals, fuel and spending money. So once again it’s me wanting something before I have the hard cash for it so it really would make more sense to forget about that for the moment. The vouchers are not out of date anyway.
Phew, it’s been a busy 24 hours and if you read this far, well done!
Hope everyone is well and happy!

Primula, my hubby now thinks you are great.... after you posting about the clubcard deals I have gone on and had a look and I have just sent off for some Ramada Jarvis hotel tokens from Tesco deals to hopefully take him to London for a weekend break in Oct for his 40th birthday!
Hooray, well done Hannah. I'm excited for you. :j Hope you get a nice hotel booked and have a fab time. Is is just a romantic break without any kiddies?;)
PS Never too young to get your kiddies cooking! Get them up at the sink scrubbing veg and "helping" you make yummy stuff! Seriously, my two love cooking now and will never go hungry.0 -
Well done on the furniture loan prim, it doesnt matter if its just a dd, the fact is the figure is getting lower:j We had lasagne too complete with both porridge oats and lentils
Need to get a few things today and probably the books for school which I really need to get a move on with. Got some cleaning done yesterday despite spending too long on here, so dont feel to guilty! Will change beds today and then get off to the shops. Have a good day.
I was surprised how well the porridge oats worked and no-one knew. Haven't tried lentils. Can you hide these too? And at what stage do you put them in? Sorry all the questions!0 -
Update thy signature so we can see you are credit card free!
Well done, that's super, and you're overpaying your mortgage too which is fab.0 -

Not updated yet coz technically it's not paid off yet, the payment will take a few days to go through so I am going to wait until I see it at zero!
Think I might put the c/c in a tupperware filled with water in the freezer so it would be for real emergencies only and not impulse buys! Read that on here somewhere and sounds like a good idea! :rotfl:0 -
Lol that is a good idea, never heard of that before. Makes sense to wait till you see the total as zero though. Will be great when you change your signature.0

Hi Prim,
Just read through your whole diary (well techincally I read it the other day but people started trying to read what I was writing over my shoulder, tsk tsk!) and I just wanna congratulate you on how well you're doing! It's nice to know that there are other people who want to make their money count for something rather than just spending it frivolously every month.
Where are you thinking of going on your holiday? (I can't remember if you mentioned it?) I'm saving up for a week in Switzerland, went there when I was in the Girl Guides and would love to go back!0 -
Hey Prim- just popping in to say I hope you have a good week.
I always suggest the freezing credit card method- automatic cooling off period before you can use it :rotfl:
I find it helps if you can't face cutting it up because you might need it in an emergency but is a great way to stop using it. In fact I should really freeze mine again!2019 fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons0
